Astrian Light

Plan your shots of the sky

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

The only planner that counts the ridge in front of you. It tells you when the sun actually clears it, not when it rises on a flat horizon Astrian Light Other apps tell you when the Sun rises. This one tells you whether you’ll actually see it. Astrian Light takes into account the real terrain at the place where you’re going to shoot — a mountain, a ridge, the horizon in front of you — and calculates when you’ll actually see the Sun appear. Not when it should rise over a flat horizon. When you’ll see it from where you’ll be. WHAT IT TELLS YOU · When the best light starts at your location and how long it lasts. · Whether the terrain will block the sunrise, and until when. · How many hours of dark sky you’ll have tonight based on the Moon. · When the Milky Way core will be visible and where it will appear. · What an eclipse will look like from your location and when each phase will happen. YOUR GEAR, INSIDE ASTRIAN Add your cameras and lenses once. From then on, the calculators work with your actual gear: pinpoint-star exposure, hyperfocal distance, depth of field, field of view, filters, and timelapse. If you use an adapter, Astrian automatically calculates the effective focal length. PLAN BEFORE YOU GO Compare locations and nights before deciding where to set up your tripod. Save each plan with its location, date, and the gear you’re taking. Once you’re there, your calculations will still be available even without a signal. ECLIPSES, FREE FOREVER Explore the map of every eclipse, see how much of the Sun will be covered from any location, check the complete timeline, and find out whether the terrain on your horizon will let you see it. Everything related to eclipses is free. Now and always. REAL DATA, EVEN WHEN DATA IS MISSING Astrian doesn’t fill in the gaps with estimates without telling you. If terrain data isn’t available for a location, Astrian will tell you that the calculation is using a flat horizon. If a weather forecast isn’t available, you’ll know that too. If Astrian can’t know something, it tells you. SUBSCRIPTION Astrian Light is free for planning eclipses and checking the sky from your current location. The annual subscription unlocks planning for any date and location, along with your gear and the rest of the advanced tools. The subscription renews automatically until cancelled and can be managed at any time from your Apple Account settings. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Astrian Light 2.0.3 This version turns Astrian Light into a planner that knows the place where you’re going to shoot. REAL TERRAIN, IN EVERY CALCULATION Your horizon is now part of the plan. Astrian takes the terrain into account when calculating Golden Hour, Milky Way visibility, and the conditions for each night. If a mountain will block the sunrise, you’ll know until what time. PLAN DIRECTLY ON THE MAP Mark where you’ll set up your camera and where you’ll point it. Check distance, azimuth, and elevation difference, calculate the shadow an object will cast, and preview the framing you’ll get with your camera and focal length. Then save the plan with the location, date, and gear you’re taking. TEN CALCULATORS, USING YOUR GEAR Add your cameras and lenses and Astrian uses them directly in its calculations. Calculate depth of field, hyperfocal distance using your lens’s actual aperture stops, exposure for pinpoint stars, field of view, filters, timelapse, and more. If you use an adapter, Astrian automatically applies the effective focal length. STAR TRAILS, OVER YOUR HORIZON See the arcs the stars will trace directly over the horizon and framing you’ve planned. Not over a generic rectangle: over the photograph you’re preparing. COMPARE LOCATIONS AND NIGHTS Choosing between two places? Compare up to three locations at once and check the upcoming nights and sky conditions for each before deciding where to go. WIDGETS Bring your next shot to your Home Screen. See the countdown to an eclipse, the Moon, or Golden Hour for the location you’ve chosen, without opening Astrian. YOUR SKY Check how dark the sky is at your location and find out whether the conditions are worth the trip before you leave home. AND MORE Your plans and gear sync with iCloud, so they’re available across all your devices. Get alerts for new moons, moonless nights, and supermoons. And if something isn’t working or there’s a feature you’d like to see, you can now tell us directly from Settings. Your message is read by a real person.
