PrinterAI reads what your printer is actually reporting — its own status, its ink levels, how your Mac is set up to reach it — and tells you what's wrong in one plain sentence.
WHY SEARCHING THE WEB DOESN'T HELP
Type "printer won't print" into a search engine and you get everybody's problem at once, with no way to tell which is yours. PrinterAI looks at your printer and answers about that one.
Here's what it found on the Mac it was built on, in under a second: the same printer was set up twice, the duplicate was using a stand-in driver that would print badly, and two cartridges had been nearly empty since November. Three faults nobody had noticed, none of them findable by searching.
WHAT IT FINDS
• The same printer listed twice — and which of the two to keep
• macOS using a general-purpose driver instead of the one made for your model
• Ink and toner levels, as coloured bars rather than a number to work out
• Paper jams, empty trays, open covers — straight from what the printer reports
• Printing paused, and jobs stuck for days, with one press to clear them
• Whether the printer is off the network, or your Mac can't see anything at all
That last one matters more than it sounds. Your Mac saying "offline" only means it can't reach the printer — not whose fault that is. PrinterAI looks twice: once for your printer, once for anything else on your network. If it can see your other devices but not the printer, it can tell you your computer is fine and the problem is at the printer. Nothing you can type into a search box will do that.
IT WON'T LEAVE YOU STUCK
If the checks find nothing, it says so plainly instead of pretending — then walks you through the eight things that fix most printers, one at a time, gentlest first, with a way out at every step.
If those don't work either, it can talk it through with you using the free assistant that stays on your Mac — the one built into macOS. It costs nothing and nothing you type leaves the machine.
THE CHECKING NEVER LEAVES YOUR MAC
No account. No email address. No analytics, no tracking, nothing collected. The diagnosis runs entirely on your computer. It can see that something is queued to print; it never sees what's in it.
The one permission it asks for is Local Network, so it can check whether your printer is switched on. Say no and everything else still works — it just can't tell you that one thing, and it says so rather than guessing.
FREE, AND HONEST ABOUT IT
Every diagnosis and every fix is free, permanently, with no account. So is the assistant that stays on your Mac.
An optional $4.99 a month subscription adds a more capable assistant for the unusual problems the built-in checks can't settle. This is the one part that goes online: a question you type is sent to our own server and from there to Claude, made by Anthropic, to be answered. Neither of us keeps it, and there is no account for it to be attached to. It buys a better answer, never the only answer — nothing that works today is going behind a paywall later.
Requires macOS 14 or later. The on-device assistant needs macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence; everything else works without it.
The subscription renews each month until you cancel it, which you can do at any time in System Settings. Payment is charged to your Apple Account, and it renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
