Zen is a focus companion that stays out of your way.
Start a session from the menu bar and the timer moves into the notch — a slim countdown beside it while you work, nothing more. No window to keep open, no clutter in the menu bar. When the session ends, Zen tells you gently and gets out of the way again.
THE NOTCH TIMER
A thin black island hugs the notch: ZEN on one side, your countdown on the other, with a hairline of progress beneath. On Macs without a notch it becomes a small pill at the top of the screen.
POMODORO, YOUR WAY
Focus, break, focus. Set your own rhythm — session length, short break, long break, and how many cycles pass before the long one. Or skip pomodoro entirely and run a single session of any length.
A GENTLE SHIELD
Name the apps that pull you away. Open one mid-session and the notch blooms with the time remaining and a stoic quote, then settles back. It is a reminder, not a wall — ending a session is always two calm clicks.
DO NOT DISTURB
Let Zen switch macOS Focus on while you work and off during breaks, using two Shortcuts you create once.
STATISTICS THAT FORGIVE
Daily goal ring, day streaks, a weekly chart and a fifteen-week heatmap. Abandon a session and it shows red — until you come back and keep working that day, and it turns white again. Every session is there to open and look back on.
A RITUAL, NOT A DASHBOARD
An optional breathing intro settles you before the timer starts. Stoic quotes from Marcus Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus rotate quietly throughout. The whole app is pure black, hairline-thin and ultralight — built to be looked at without being noticed.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no tracking, no analytics, no network. Everything stays on your Mac.
Zen is also on iPhone, where Screen Time lets it shield your apps completely.
