20Away counts only the time you are really at your Mac — and reminds you to look away before your eyes have to ask.
20Away is a quiet companion that reminds you of the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
Most break timers keep counting while you are away from your desk. 20Away watches keyboard and pointer activity and the state of your display, so the countdown pauses by itself when you leave and resumes when you come back. Step away long enough and it counts as a natural break — the interval simply starts over.
A CALM FULL-SCREEN BREAK
When the time comes, every connected display is covered by a quiet screen with a countdown. Postpone it or skip it. Nothing is forced on you.
AN EYE THAT SHOWS WHERE YOU STAND
A coloured eye sits in the menu bar. Green means you are fine. Amber appears as you approach your daily screen-time budget, or when you keep postponing breaks. Red means it is high time to rest. Take a real break and it goes back to green.
OPTIONAL CAMERA, NOTHING STORED
For sharper accuracy you can switch on the camera. It only tells "someone is here" from "nobody is here". Analysis runs on device through Apple's Vision framework, only the presence of a face is detected, and every frame is discarded immediately. It is off by default and never starts without your consent.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account. No internet connection required. No telemetry, no analytics, no third parties. Your statistics stay on your device, and you can export them to CSV or JSON whenever you like.
IN YOUR LANGUAGE
Translated into 20 languages, switchable inside the app without touching your system settings. Light and dark appearance, and full Dynamic Type support.

Simple refocusing and shoulder-release exercises, plus a short tip each day. No scoring, no streaks, no pressure.

20Away can now open at login, so it is running after every restart. The first-run screen offers it with a switch, and until it is on, the dashboard and the menu bar offer to turn it on. If macOS still needs your approval, 20Away shows where to allow it: System Settings → General → Login Items.
