Put on AirPods without sending AI dictation to the wrong microphone. Mic Check keeps the highest-priority available input selected from your menu bar. Mic Check keeps your Mac on the microphone you meant to use. macOS can change the default input when AirPods, headsets, docks, or other audio devices appear. That can send AI dictation, transcription, voice coding, or calls to the wrong microphone. Mic Check watches the system input and returns it to the highest-ranked connected microphone in your priority list. SET IT ONCE • Add the microphones you want Mic Check to use. • Put them in priority order. • Leave protection on in the menu bar. WHEN DEVICES CHANGE • The highest-ranked connected microphone in your list wins. • If it disconnects, Mic Check falls back to the next connected choice. • When a higher-priority microphone returns, Mic Check selects it again. • Devices you have not ranked do not take over. FOCUSED AND PRIVATE • Changes the macOS default input only. • Does not record or analyze audio. • Does not request microphone permission. • Includes local, exportable diagnostic logs for support. • Can start automatically at login. Mic Check is designed for standard macOS input devices, including built-in microphones, wired headsets, common USB inputs, and Bluetooth microphones exposed by macOS. Apps that use their own fixed input selection may not follow the system default. Complex aggregate or multi-interface studio setups may behave differently. Requires macOS 13 or later.
