Our Favorite Memories
Save the moments that matter.
Free
Some of the best memories are the ones you never planned to save.
A funny thing your child says. A story from a grandparent. A voice you want to remember exactly as it sounded. A photo with a story behind it.
Our Favorite Memories gives you one simple, private place to capture the moments that matter—before they slip away.
Capture memories your way
Write a memory, record their voice, add a photo or video, and preserve the story behind the moment.
Ask the questions you’ll be glad you asked
Thoughtful prompts and guided interviews make it easy to capture stories, opinions, traditions, and little pieces of someone’s personality.
Remember more than just the photo
Add who was there, when it happened, and why you’ll remember it. Organize memories around the people who make your story special.
Rediscover the moments you saved
Browse and search your memories and revisit the words, voices, photos, videos, and stories you've collected over time.
Your memories stay yours
Our Favorite Memories is designed around your personal Apple devices and iCloud. Your family memories aren't a social feed, and we don't sell them or use them for advertising.
The moments that seem ordinary today may become the ones you treasure most tomorrow.
Your moments. Forever.
more See what you just saved — After you save, you'll see the memory itself: its title, date, who it's with, a few of their words and its own photo or video.
Pick any date in seconds — Choose the month and year straight from the date picker, even for memories and birthdays from years ago.
Memories With, in Search — The faces of your family now sit at the top of Search too. Tap someone to see their memories, or tap Add to include someone new.
Start a new question collection — New Collection in Prompts is now easy to find.
Nothing lost — If a memory can't be saved, everything you wrote stays put so you can try again. And on iPad, a memory you were in the middle of writing is still there when you come back to it.
1.5.0 16h ago
A fresh new look — Warm ivory pages, clear headings and cleaner cards put your family's photos and words front and center.
A simpler Home — Home now flows from the people in your story to what's coming up, then four clear ways to capture a memory: Write a Memory, Add a Video, Record Their Voice and Add Photo(s). A memory worth revisiting and Today's Question follow.
Your Memory Book, at a glance — The Memories tab shows your Memory Book as a little book cover with photos from your memories.
Easier searching — Search results lead with each memory's photo. Tap the words to open the full memory, or Play to just listen.
Easier to read — Text follows your iPhone or iPad text size more closely, and every button stays within reach at larger sizes.
1.4.2 2d ago
More to talk about — Today's Question now draws from over 100 questions, from silly to deeper ones like "Tell me about a conversation that helped change your life." A question won't come around again until you've seen the rest, and ones you've already answered are skipped.
Fresh birthday and holiday questions — In the week before a birthday or holiday, the question changes each day instead of repeating the same one, and grown-ups no longer get questions meant for kids.
1.4.1 Oct 19
Now on iPad — Our Favorite Memories now runs on iPad, with every screen designed for the larger display, in portrait and landscape. Home, Memories and Prompts show two columns in landscape, and Split View and Slide Over work too.
Bigger photos on iPad — A memory's photos fill much more of the screen, at their own proportions, with Favorite, Share and More always in reach.
Take a photo right away — When you write, record or edit a memory, Add Photo(s) now lets you take a new photo as well as choose one from your library.
Quotes look right — A memory that was saved with its own quotation marks no longer shows them twice. Your words aren't changed, and quotation marks inside a memory stay as you wrote them.
Clearer iCloud status — A memory's status now says plainly whether it's saved on this device, whether you're signed in to iCloud, and whether it has synced, instead of "confirming with iCloud" when iCloud isn't available.
1.4.0 Oct 17
No more freezing on a name — Tapping a person's name or photo in Search or the Memories list now opens their page, instead of freezing the app.
Save from the top — The memory editor now has Save at the top, next to Cancel, so you can save without scrolling to the end. Save Changes is still at the bottom.
Easier writing — When you write a long quote or note, the line you're typing stays in view above the keyboard.
Play and Favorite do just that — Tapping Play or the heart on a memory in your list no longer opens the memory's page as well, and editing a memory from the player now works every time.
1.3.3 Oct 15
Your edits are safe — The memory editor now has Cancel at the top wherever you open it from. If you have unsaved changes, Cancel asks before discarding them, and the editor can't be swiped away by accident.
Easier-to-find profile button — Your profile photo at the top of Home, Memories, Prompts and Search is now larger and the same size on every screen.
Memory Book refinements — When you choose a new background, the page you're reading changes right away, and the clock and battery stay easy to read on dark and light pages.
Ages shown correctly — A memory now shows the age your loved one was on the memory's date, including older prompt answers and memories whose date you changed.
Edit people from the photo view — Editing a memory from its full-screen photo now shows all your story members, so you can add or change who it belongs to.
1.3.2 Oct 14
Improvements and fixes — Behind-the-scenes improvements to keep your memories safe and the app reliable.
1.3.1 Oct 13
Share a memory from your Memory Book — Tap Share in the Memory Book to send the page exactly as it looks — the photo, words, people and date — as a beautiful image. Choose which originals go with it: every photo (including ones you added later), the video and the voice recordings, each sent as its own full-quality file.
Recently Added — A new sort in Memories and Search shows what you added most recently first, without changing a memory's own date. Your choice of sort is remembered.
View Memory after saving photos — After saving a photo memory, open it right away with View Memory.
Clearer Memory Book in Dark appearance — Pages always use colors that suit the background you chose, so text stays easy to read.
1.3.0 Oct 8
Add videos from Files — Choose a video from the Files app, alongside recording and your Photos library. The app keeps its own copy, so moving or deleting the original never affects your memory.
Add a video while writing or editing a memory — Write a Memory and Edit Memory now have "Add Video" for a memory that doesn't already have a video or voice recording.
Trim, crop and choose a cover — Optionally shorten a video, reframe it (Original, Square, 4:5, 16:9 or 9:16) and pick the still shown as its picture. Nothing changes until you save.
Videos and voices in your books — Book pages now show a large video picture you can play, and a clear Listen button for voice recordings. Gift PDFs show each video's picture and length.
Date of Memory for photos — Set the date a photo memory happened before saving. If your photos carry the date they were taken, it's suggested for you, and you can always change it. Ages now reflect the memory's date.
More reliable video syncing — Edited videos sync safely between your devices.
1.2.0 Oct 5
Gift books — Collect memories into named books with chapters and a dedication, and read them page by page.
Share memories as a gift — Send a selection, a whole book or one chapter as a beautiful PDF or as a gift file someone else can add to their own Our Favorite Memories. You choose what's included: first names only by default, ages optional, and never birth dates, locations or tags.
Receive gifts — Open a gift file to preview its contents, then add it to your library as your own copy.
Easier selecting — A clear selection bar at the bottom of Memories, with a prominent Delete, and search results stay usable while you select.
More reliable sync — Your own question collections now sync between your devices, and books stay in the same order everywhere.
1.1.0 Sep 30
• Changes from your other devices now arrive right away, even while the app is in the background.
• Each memory shows whether it's saved on this device, syncing, or synced to iCloud, with recordings and videos listed separately and a safe Retry for an upload that didn't finish.
• Memory Book: jump to the first or last memory, or open the contents to search titles and text and go straight to any memory. The book reopens where you left off.
• Photos stay in the same order on all your devices, and you can reorder them when editing a memory (touch and hold a photo).
• Backups now say clearly whether they're complete, list anything missing and why, and confirm when the file is saved.
1.0.5 Sep 28
• Tapping the Our Favorite Memories widget now opens the memory it's showing, even when the app wasn't already open. If that memory has been deleted or hasn't reached this iPhone yet, you'll see a short note instead.
• The widget now keeps the same favorite memory all day instead of changing each time you open the app.
• Memories has a new Filter menu: show one or more family members, only your Favorites, or both together — for example, just one child's favorites.
• Newest First and Oldest First now sort by each memory's own date, including dates you've changed or set while importing.
1.0.2 Sep 24
• Memories and each family member's timeline now show the year with every date.
• After saving, "Write / Record / Add Another…" starts the same kind of memory again, with a fresh form.
• Memory Book: edit the memory on the page you're reading.
• Starting a memory from a family member's page selects that person for you.
• Tap anywhere on a family member's row to select them.
• Import: edit each memory's title, text, date and family members before importing — every entry can be different, and the year is always shown.
• Recordings and videos that never finished backing up to iCloud are now backed up automatically from the device that has them, so they can be played and backed up on your other devices.
