Hold your phone for a minute; how steady you were comes back as a picture of light, no permission asked. One free a day, the same picture a paying user gets.
Fermata records how still your iPhone was during the minutes you mark, using the phone's own motion sensor, and draws that minute as a field of light. There is no score anywhere in it. A hold ends with one plain word (still, settling, drifting or scattering) and the minutes you held the phone.
When the phone cannot read a moment, Fermata says so. If the trace shows the phone was resting on a table rather than held, the hold closes as "not read" and no reading is invented. An instrument that refuses is more useful than one that guesses.
WHAT A HOLD IS
Mark a moment. Hold your iPhone for one, three or five minutes. Fermata reads how steady the phone was while you held it, using the phone's own motion sensor, and draws that reading as a field of light that is yours alone.
The reading is a shape, not a score. A steady minute comes out as a band of light with a hard bright edge. An unsteady one comes out as the same light with no edge anywhere. You can read it in greyscale, upside down, from across the room, which is the point: nothing about it needs decoding.
There is no number, ever. No percentage, no grade, no verdict. One plain word and the minutes it took.
WHAT FERMATA DOES
- Reads device motion at 50 Hz while you hold the phone, in the foreground only, with no Motion and Fitness permission prompt and no system alert of any kind
- Draws every reading with a Metal shader that runs on your iPhone's own GPU
- Keeps a dated vertical record of your readings, newest at the top, so a week of minutes is one screen
- Puts the latest reading on your Home Screen, Lock Screen and StandBy as a widget
WHAT FERMATA NEVER DOES
- No account, no server, no sync, no sign-in
- Nothing leaves the device. There is no network on any path except the App Store purchase itself. Try it in Airplane Mode
- No motion trace is ever stored, sent or shared
- No charts, no trends, no weekly summaries, no advice
Fermata is an instrument, not a health or therapy tool. It observes how steady a phone was and how long you held it. It makes no claim about your body or your mind.
ON EVERY IPHONE, THE SAME PRODUCT
The picture is drawn by the shader, on your iPhone, on every device that runs the app. There is no hardware tier that gets a better field and none that gets a lesser one. The single line of text under a reading is written on the device too.
THE FREE TIER IS COMPLETE, NOT CRIPPLED
One hold a day at full render fidelity, a real widget, a real share card and seven days of record. In the same field style, the picture a free user gets is byte-for-byte the picture a paying user gets. Every hold you take is kept at both tiers; the free limit is a display window, not a deletion.

- Monthly $4.99. Auto-renewing subscription, no free trial.
- Annual $39.99/year. Auto-renewing subscription, 7-day free trial for new subscribers only.
- Lifetime $89.99. One-time non-consumable purchase, no subscription.
Payment will be charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions auto-renew at the same price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can manage your subscription and turn off auto-renew at any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if you purchase a subscription.
