Feet, inches and fractions held exactly. Rafters and stairs solved with the working shown, and all of it works with no signal.
The construction calculator that shows its working.
Sawline does feet-inch-fraction math exactly. Feet, inches and fractions are held as exact rationals rather than decimals, so 1/3 of 8 feet comes back as 2' 8" and sixteen risers add up to the total rise you entered, not to a sixteenth less. Set the display resolution anywhere from 1/2 to 1/64.
Enter a run and a pitch, get the rafter. Enter a total rise, get the stair. Open any result to see the formula with your own numbers substituted into it.
FRAMING AND ROOFING
Enter any two of rise, run, diagonal and pitch, and the other two solve. Pitch reads as rise per 12, ratio, angle or percent grade. The HIP/V key gives the length of a hip or valley where both roofs share the pitch, with its plan run, its angle and the backing bevel.
STAIRS
Enter the total rise and the STAIR key gives the risers, the riser height, the treads, the tread depth, the total run, the stringer length and its angle, one press at a time. Add the run you have and the flight is solved to fit it. When it cannot fit, the app says so and names the change that makes it fit. The code report checks riser height, tread depth and how much the risers and treads vary against IRC 2021 or IRC 2024, and prints the actual value, the required value and the section number on every row.
BUILT FOR THE JOBSITE
Works with no signal. Keeps the screen awake while you work. Keys sized for gloves.
HOW THE TRIAL WORKS
Each calculator (area, roof and stairs) starts with a short walkthrough you can do for free. When a calculator's walkthrough ends, that calculator locks. Keep using all three with a yearly or monthly subscription, each starting with a free trial, or with a one-time lifetime purchase. No account, no ads, either way.
PLEASE NOTE
Sawline validates geometry against the ruleset you select. It is not a code review and it does not replace your building official.

Developer Response
Hi, thanks for taking the time to write. You’re right that paying for a calculator feels odd, and we thought about that a lot before charging anything. We’ve tried to keep Sawline cheaper and easier to afford than the other construction calculators in the store. Plenty of people feel the way you do about subscriptions, so we also offer a one-time lifetime option. Most competitors only sell a yearly plan. We’re a small team, and the money pays for fixing bugs, adding features people ask for, keeping the app working with each new iOS version, and answering support email. A subscription is what lets us keep doing that instead of letting the app go stale. If you give Sawline another try and anything feels off, email us at the address under Settings ▸ Feedback and we’ll help.
Fixes and small improvements.
