If you tapped "Don't Allow" when Nod Chef asked for the camera, head control no longer disappears for good. The app now tells you exactly where to turn it back on and can take you straight there: tap "Camera off" at the top of the cooking screen. Allow it, and head control is back. On iPhones without Face ID, the cooking screen now says plainly that head control isn't available on that model, instead of suggesting it was on. Plus more reliable crash reporting behind the scenes, so problems get found and fixed faster.

A proper introduction. Nod Chef now shows you how head control works before your first recipe: a short practice screen where you move three cards with a real turn of your head, so the first time you try it is not with wet hands over a hot pan. You can replay it any time from Settings › Head tracking. A new install now starts with an empty library. It used to arrive with four recipes nobody had saved — leftover demo data — and because they counted against the five free recipes, saving your own first recipe could land you on the unlock screen. If those four are still in your library, you can swipe them away. Also in this version: • The empty library suggests dishes from the catalog, with photographs, instead of an empty screen • Catalog cards respond to a tap anywhere on the card, including the photo • A recipe's "start ahead" time showed a placeholder instead of the number of hours • The unlock screen now says that it also opens the catalog's Pro recipes

Cook from a catalog of hundreds of recipes, or type in one of your own. Either way it turns into big step cards — one step at a time, large enough to read from across the counter. A small turn of your head moves you to the next step, so you never stop to wipe your hands or hunt for the right line in a wall of text. Head control needs a TrueDepth front camera; everything also works by tap and swipe. Five recipes are free. A one-time unlock opens the rest, with no subscription.
