Open the SQLite, Core Data, SwiftData, Realm, JSON and plist files your apps write — browse, query, profile and edit them safely, entirely on your Mac.
Data Inspector Pro opens the data files your apps write, and shows you what is inside them.
SQLite, Core Data, SwiftData, Realm, JSON, JSON Lines and property lists all open natively, in one window, with no schema definitions, no server and no setup. Encrypted files are handled too: Realm with its key, and SQLCipher databases decrypted in memory, so no plaintext copy is ever written to disk.
FIND THE FILE • Browse App Containers lists the databases inside simulator and sandboxed Mac app containers, resolving the UUIDs back to device and app names. • Open many files at once, each with its own schema and browsing state. • Go to Table jumps to any table in any open file by typing part of its name. • Create new SQLite, Realm, JSON and plist files from templates.
READ IT • A real macOS table: resizable, reorderable, click-to-sort columns. • Filters and search run inside the store, so a million-row table costs what is on screen, not what is in the file. • Right-click a cell to filter to or away from its value, sort or hide its column. • Follow foreign keys and Realm links through to the row they point at. Referenced By walks the other way, from a row to the tables that point at it. • Nested JSON, archived property lists and payloads buried inside BLOB columns open as a tree. Images, PDFs and text stored in BLOBs are rendered rather than described, with a hex dump as the fallback. • Profile a column: nulls, distinct count, range, average and the most common values. Chart the distribution in one click. • Find duplicate rows across any set of columns. • Read the schema as cards, or as a live diagram of every relationship in the file.
QUERY IT • SQL for SQLite-backed stores, NSPredicate for Realm, with syntax colouring and completion of table and column names from the file that is open. • Named parameters are asked for when the query runs and bound as data, never pasted into the statement. • Paste a whole script and every statement runs; if one fails, the error names which. • Attach another open SQLite document and join across files. • History and saved queries survive relaunch.
CHANGE IT, SAFELY • Files open read-only. Unlocking is one click, in the tab strip. • A safety copy is taken before the first write, and Revert restores the original byte for byte. • Take named snapshots during a long session and go back to any of them. • Every edit, insert and delete is undoable. • Edit the schema — tables, columns, foreign keys, indexes — and see the exact SQL, and what it will cost, before it runs. Changing a column type rewrites the table while preserving the CHECK constraints, COLLATE clauses and cascade rules that a pragma-driven rebuild silently drops. • Set a value across a selection, or find and replace through a column, as a single undoable step. • Edits are validated strictly: a value either round-trips exactly or it is refused, with a message saying what was expected.
GET IT OUT • Export or copy to CSV, JSON, JSON Lines, SQL INSERT statements or a Markdown table — one table or the whole file. • Import CSV, tab-separated, JSON or JSON Lines into an existing table, type-checked value by value. • Copy a table as a Swift struct, a Realm Object, a SwiftData @Model or CREATE TABLE. • Shortcuts actions for listing tables, running a read-only query and exporting a table.
PRIVACY No account, no telemetry, no analytics. The app requests no network entitlement at all, so nothing it reads can leave your Mac. Every file it opens is one you chose.
GOOD TO KNOW • Encrypted SQLite (SQLCipher) files open read-only, up to 512 MB, because they are decrypted into memory rather than to a temporary file. • Core Data stores do not record attribute capitalisation, so recovered property names appear lower-cased, with the physical column name alongside. • Realm and WAL-mode SQLite files keep sibling files; the app asks once for the enclosing folder and says which files it needs. • Requires macOS 14.4 or later.
