HeatCheck: WBGT Heat Safety

Texas UIL & TAPPS Practice Log

Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

See the current UIL or TAPPS heat flag, the rest breaks and practice caps that go with it, and an hourly WBGT outlook. Tap the map to see which stations fed your reading. Know the flag before practice starts. HeatCheck turns the weather stations around your practice field into a live Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) reading and tells you exactly which UIL heat zone you're in — and what the rules require you to do about it. WHY WBGT Heat-safety decisions can't run on air temperature alone. WBGT combines temperature, humidity, wind, and sun load — it's the measure the UIL's heat-stress plan is built on, with required activity modifications at every zone. WHAT HEATCHECK DOES • Live WBGT estimate for your exact location, built from dozens of nearby stations — airport stations plus citizen weather stations, quality-checked against each other so one bad backyard sensor can't skew your reading • The current UIL flag (Green / Yellow / Orange / Red / Black) for your geographic class — Class 2 (West Texas & Panhandle) or Class 3 (rest of the state), with automatic suggestion by location • The required modifications for the zone, spelled out: rest-break counts and lengths, practice-length caps, equipment restrictions, rapid cooling zone requirements, and when outdoor activity must stop • Hourly WBGT outlook so you can plan practice around the heat • A zone map of conditions around your area • A timestamped reading log — every reading records the WBGT, flag, data source, and location. Add manual entries from an on-site meter, and export the whole log as CSV for your athletic director • Saved field locations — check your practice field's conditions before you leave the house BUILT FOR HONESTY Estimated WBGT carries real uncertainty. HeatCheck tells you which stations it used, how old the reading is, warns when you're within a couple degrees of a zone boundary, and always recommends verifying with an on-site meter near the line. Estimates use published, peer-reviewed methods — no black boxes. WHO IT'S FOR Coaches, athletic trainers, athletic directors, and band directors who need a fast, defensible answer to one question: can we practice right now, and under what restrictions? HeatCheck is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) or the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS). Always follow your district's policies and your athletic trainer's judgment.
