AI Acronyms & Terms Explained

$1.99

Two new terms, AEO and E-E-A-T, a new distinction, CPU vs. GPU vs. TPU, and a letter index for jumping through the list on iPhone and iPad. The language of artificial intelligence, explained on your device. AI Jargonaut turns AI jargon into something you can say out loud without bluffing. Start from a curated set of 69 acronyms and terms, plus 4 distinctions between ideas that are easily confused — each with its full expansion, a plain-language definition, an everyday analogy to make it stick, where you'd actually meet it, the source it came from, and the date it first appeared — then make the whole dictionary your own. FROM THE FIRST LAYERS TO THE LATEST WORKFLOWS The starter set runs from the words used loosely in every meeting — AI, AGI, ASI, LLM, RAG — through to the ones that have only just arrived, like Scaling laws. New in this version: AEO, the craft of becoming the answer a search or chat engine gives rather than one link among ten; E-E-A-T, Google's yardstick for whether a page deserves to be trusted; and CPU vs. GPU vs. TPU, a fourth distinction that sets three kinds of processor side by side. It joins Agents vs. Assistants, ASI vs. Singularity, and MoE vs. Model Router. WHERE EVERY TERM IS ACTUALLY USED Every entry names the products, systems, and tasks the term turns up in. Not more theory — RAG comes with enterprise Q&A over internal documents and citation-backed chat; Quantization with 4-bit local inference and integer-only edge deployment. It's the line that turns "I've read the definition" into "I'd recognize one." DEFINITIONS WRITTEN ON YOUR DEVICE Type an acronym on the Ask screen and Apple Intelligence fills in the full term, the definition, the analogy, the uses, the source, and when it first appeared. On devices with Apple Intelligence it runs entirely offline. PRIVATE BY DESIGN What you look up stays with you. There's no account to create, no server to ask, and nothing reported back to anyone. ON EVERY DEVICE YOU OWN Terms you add travel through your own iCloud account, so the same entries are waiting on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. WRITTEN BY YOU, NOT JUST FOR YOU Rewrite any entry in your own words and illustrate it with your own picture — it shows beside the term in the list, just as the app's own artwork does. Change your mind and Restore Original puts back the definition, analogy, uses, source, date, and illustration the term came with. Take the lot with you as a plain JSON file, and bring it back the same way. A TERM AWAY, WHEREVER YOU ARE Search your acronyms and terms from Spotlight, ask Siri to define one, or keep one on your Home Screen with the widget, which shows up to seven lines of a definition. QUESTIONS, ANSWERED A Frequently Asked Questions page in Settings covers how to edit a field, what editing costs you, how to put the original back, whether your edits and deletions carry over to a new device, how to get back to Browse, what happens to a bad date in an imported file, and why some entries are dated January 1st. The app speaks Spanish throughout. The dictionary entries themselves are in English. Definitions are drafted with a language model and offered as a starting point, not as authority. TWO NEW TERMS AND A NEW DISTINCTION • AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) — shaping content so a search or answer engine picks it as the answer itself, not just one link among many. You'll also hear it called GEO. • E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) — Google's framework for judging whether a page deserves trust. Trust is the one the other three can't make up for. • CPU vs. GPU vs. TPU — the planner that handles the one-off pieces, the crew that does repetitive work in parallel, and the machine built for one kind of AI math. AEO and CPU vs. GPU vs. TPU each come with an illustration of their own. That takes the starter dictionary to 69 acronyms and terms, plus 4 distinctions. Entries you've rewritten are left exactly as you wrote them; the new ones are simply added. JUMP STRAIGHT TO A LETTER On iPhone and iPad, the term list is now grouped by first letter, with an index down the edge — as in Contacts — that takes you straight to one. It steps aside while you search. PICTURES THE SIZE OF THE WINDOW On a Mac, clicking an illustration now opens it as large as the window, ready to zoom in, and you can still resize it from there.
