Kernel memory leak watchdog

Mac

Watch the macOS kernel's memory zones from your menu bar and catch a leak days before it can panic your Mac. A kernel memory leak gives you no warning. Your Mac runs fine for days, then panics with "zalloc: zone map exhausted" — and the crash report tells you nothing about what was slowly eating the machine the whole time. ZoneCanary watches for it. Like a canary in a coal mine, it sits in your menu bar and chirps days before the kernel keels over. WHAT IT WATCHES Every few minutes ZoneCanary samples all of the kernel's memory zones — several hundred of them — and looks for the ones that only ever grow. A zone that climbs steadily for hours, or one that has quietly reached a gigabyte, is the signature of a leak that ends in a panic. It also shows an overall pressure gauge: how close your Mac actually is to the ceiling, as a single percentage, so you can see trouble coming without reading a table of raw numbers. WHAT YOU SEE A green bird in the menu bar when everything is healthy. A warning triangle when a zone starts looking leaky. Click it for the pressure gauge, any active alerts, and the largest zones on your system right now. If a zone trips an alert while you are working, a notification tells you — you do not have to remember to check. A RECORD YOU CAN SEND TO APPLE Every sample is appended to a plain CSV log you can open in any spreadsheet. When a leak finally does bring the machine down, you have the days of history that the panic report cannot give you — exactly the evidence a Feedback Assistant report needs. BUILT TO STAY OUT OF THE WAY ZoneCanary reads the same data the zprint command shows, directly and in-process. No admin password, no helper daemon, no background installer, no kernel extension. It samples on the interval you choose — every 5, 10, 30 or 60 minutes — and does nothing else. Nothing leaves your Mac. There is no account, no analytics, and no network connection of any kind. The log stays in the app's own folder on your disk. WHO IT IS FOR Anyone whose Mac has panicked more than once for no obvious reason, and anyone who keeps a machine up for weeks at a time — developers, admins, and people running long jobs who would rather see a leak coming than clean up after it.
