- Read-aloud can now use a high-quality voice generated on your device (the voice data is downloaded the first time). - Added a sleep timer for read-aloud. - A "Finished" page now follows the last page, with suggestions for what to read next. - Added "Read a little every day" mode, and "Set aside" for books you want to pause. - Added a shelf for reviewing highlights across all your books. - Meanings of difficult words can now appear in small type where the ruby goes. - Line and character spacing now come in presets (Paperback, Narrow, Standard, Wide), and page turns can be set to "No animation". - You can flip the tap zones for one-handed reading. - Discover now starts with Today’s book and Recently viewed, and search results can be filtered by orthography, length and era. - Figure captions are now set smaller than the body text. - Fixed annotations that failed to parse in some works, and long word notes are now set large enough to read. - Fixed layout issues at the largest text sizes, and other small bugs.

Small improvements. - The headings and descriptions of the App Picks lists in Browse are now clearer - At the largest text sizes, rows for lists and works and the "Download and read" button no longer get cut off or break words in the middle - The book icon on the Read button is now easier to see - On a work's page, the "Opening line" heading and the remaining reading time now read correctly in English

Small fixes. - Fixed an issue where the app could quit the first time it was opened after installing - Adding a book to Favorites from its details page is now saved right away (it could be lost if the app closed just afterward) - The Cancel button in the display setup guide is easier to tap - In some works, special characters (small kana such as a small "n", circled numbers, accented letters and more) were shown as "〓"; they now show as the proper characters (Night on the Galactic Railroad and others). Characters that have no digital form now show a short description instead of "〓"

Stability improvements (crash fixes). - Closed off places where broken reading-record numbers could make the app quit - Looking up a word in the dictionary no longer freezes the screen for a moment - In some works, accented Latin letters were shown as raw markup (such as 〔cafe'〕); they now show as proper letters (I Am a Cat and others) - Loading failures while you are offline are no longer treated as errors - In some works, a triple exclamation mark was shown as "〓"; fixed

More ways to reach the one book you want to read. We read the works in the app by machine and widened the shelves by mood and theme. - Mood shelves now have a separate section: "gathered by machine, same mood". It never mixes with the ten chosen by hand - Ten machine-gathered themes now sit under Collections, in their own section - Author pages now show "Start here" — one way in for each of 1,103 authors - From a work's detail page you can now step across to the mood and theme shelves it belongs to - "Read next" gained a fourth reason: a similar afterglow - Read-aloud can now voice dialogue and narration differently (Pro). Turn it off with "Tell dialogue apart" in Settings You can now move sideways from a work's detail page. - Category, readability, reading time, author and tags are now tappable — go straight to that shelf - The detail page now shows the book's spine, the same picture you see on your shelf - Favourite is now on the page itself: one tap, no menu - Save the texts of a whole collection or a whole author at once - "Today's book" now shows its length, so you know the reading time before you tap Read-aloud fixes. - Reading aloud could stop partway and drop the rest of the text; fixed (repetition marks, censored characters and more) - Reading position could drift by one sentence; fixed - Closed a path where the button flipped to "Stop" even though no sound had started - Long works now take less time to get ready Readability fixes too: we re-measured contrast across every screen and darkened the text that was too faint. We also fixed the eleven screens where VoiceOver could not reach Favourite. Machine-gathered shelves always sit in their own section, apart from the ones chosen by hand — we would rather you always know which is which. Four of the twelve moods (Sleepless nights, For a cry, Your first one, To think) are not widened: we measured, and the machine was not right about them.

Fixes for the places that stopped you mid-read, and for choices you could not make. - Choose the voice used for reading aloud - Change a highlight's colour after the fact; the same passage no longer gets highlighted twice - Step to the next or previous search result in the text with a single tap - Closing mid-download now resumes from what was already fetched - Delete saved texts one work at a time - Added "Saved" to the library filter - Press and hold the Home Screen icon for Continue reading and Search - On iPad, changing the width no longer sends the text back to "Laying out pages…" - Opening an unread book from its detail page no longer closes that page - Six controls that were too small to hit are now finger-sized - The first-run tour now shows your progress all the way to the last card - After you subscribe, you are returned to the action that was blocked - Sharing now checks that there is really something to send before the sheet opens A share sheet opening never meant the file went out — it opens even for an empty file. We now check both before it opens and after it closes.

Fewer steps before you start reading, and fixes where tapping did nothing. - Press and hold a work in any list (right-click on Mac) for Read and Add to favorites - The Search key now dismisses the keyboard in filter fields - Find no longer makes you wait after you confirm a search - On Mac, paging past the last page returned nothing; it now tells you - Moving from the table of contents or a bookmark while reading aloud now continues from there - Reading assist can now be stopped partway through - Dragging the selection handles could close the book; fixed - Handoff from another device, read-along invitations, and encounters in Words failed to open the text; fixed - A word named in Spotlight could be missed right after launch; fixed Most of these were fixes that had never reached the neighbouring screens. We counted the places they had not reached and delivered them again.

A fix for the largest text sizes. - In Work details, the contributor's role ran into the author's name; the two now stack vertically We widened the sweep that photographs every screen at the largest text size. The fix above is what it found.

Easier to read, easier to tap. - The button that takes you onward from an empty Library, Reading log, or Words is now a comfortable size for a fingertip - "Browse yourself" on the first-book screen now responds across its full padding - Supporting text in Work details, Contents, Words, and Reading assist now stands out from the background - The segmented controls in Display settings, Contents, and Reading assist are larger We added a sweep that walks every screen and measures it; the fixes above are what it found.
