Check smart-card readiness and refresh stale macOS certificate detection from one simple native status window and menu bar indicator. Smart Card Status helps Mac users check whether a compatible smart card, including a Common Access Card or PIV card, is ready for certificate-based website access, and recover when certificate detection appears stale. Its Refresh Card action rebuilds the app's local CryptoTokenKit watcher and rechecks the card several times. This can restore certificate visibility without restarting a macOS system service, modifying certificates, or requesting administrator access. The app separately checks whether macOS can see a smart-card reader, an inserted card, its cryptographic token, and a current certificate permitted for TLS client authentication. A green shield appears when the complete chain is available. A ready result means macOS exposes a current website authentication identity. It is informational and does not guarantee authentication, access, security, or service availability. The destination website, network, browser, trust configuration, and PIN state can still affect access. Install the app only on devices where you are authorized to install software.
