Kikitori turns your voice into text: quickly, accurately, and entirely on your own Mac. Press Option+Shift+Space, speak, and press it again. Your words appear live in a floating panel while you talk and are copied to the clipboard the moment you stop, ready to paste anywhere with Cmd+V. No window juggling, no uploads, no waiting. WHY “KIKITORI” Kikitori (聞き取り) is Japanese for catching what you hear: listening comprehension. I built it out of frustration: every dictation tool I tried either misheard me or quietly shipped my voice to someone else's server. I wanted the opposite: a listener that gets the words right and keeps them on my Mac. That is the whole app: it listens carefully, so you can just talk. YOUR VOICE NEVER LEAVES YOUR MAC Privacy is not a setting in Kikitori. It is the architecture. That makes it GDPR (DSGVO) compliant by design: • Transcription runs 100% on-device, powered by Whisper, the state-of-the-art open speech model • Audio is processed in memory and discarded, never stored, never uploaded • No account, no sign-in, no tracking, no ads. Anonymous usage counts help improve the app; a random install ID is added only if you allow it • Works completely offline after the one-time model download • Your voice and your text are never collected: only which features are used, and your purchase, handled by the App Store and the payment service that validates it Dictate confidential email, meeting notes, medical or legal drafts, or your private journal. Nobody hears it but your Mac. HOW IT WORKS • Live transcription: words appear as you speak, not after • Auto-copy: the finished text lands on your clipboard, paste it anywhere • 99 languages: dictate in your language, or auto-detect • Translate as you dictate: speak any language, get English text • Menu bar app: invisible until you need it, no dock clutter ACCURACY TIERS The free Low tier is fast and genuinely useful for everyday dictation. Kikitori Pro, a one-time purchase with no subscription, unlocks the Medium and High tiers powered by larger Whisper models, for when every word has to be right: drafts, emails, technical vocabulary, or noisy rooms. Kikitori 1.1 helps me make the app better, without giving up your privacy. • Anonymous usage counts: which features are used, never your audio, your text or the words you say. • After your first dictation, Kikitori asks once whether a random install ID may be added to those counts. Your answer changes nothing else, and you can switch it any time in Preferences → Privacy. Switching it off deletes the ID. • Counts that could not be sent are deleted after 30 days. • Feedback from the menu now goes to hello+kikitori@ramuslabs.com, and Kikitori has a new home at ramuslabs.com/kikitori. Transcription still runs entirely on your device.
