TheMoth is a creative drum pattern generator and editor designed to turn rhythmic inspiration into usable MIDI or audio as quickly as possible.
Generate a pattern, reshape it directly in Live Preview, select the part you want, then drag it into your DAW as MIDI or WAV.
Instead of constructing every sequence step by step, TheMoth helps you create complex, evolving rhythms while keeping direct control over individual hits, accents, selections and variations.
GENERATE AND MUTATE
Create repeatable patterns in lengths of 2, 4, 8 or 16 bars.
Generate creates a fresh rhythm. Mutate produces a related variation of the current pattern instead of replacing it with something completely unrelated.
Shape the result using Complexity, Chaos, Density, Syncopation, Mutate Amount and Glitch. TheMoth can also vary Density, Syncopation, Chaos and Glitch independently between bars to create patterns that evolve over time.
EDIT DIRECTLY IN LIVE PREVIEW
Generated material remains fully editable.
Add, erase, move and duplicate individual hits. Paint velocity and accents, create echo-style repetitions, resize and move selections, select individual tracks, copy and paste rhythmic material, loop regions and reverse event order.
Undo or redo up to 20 Live Preview changes.
Fill active selections using nine levels of rhythmic density.
Promote repeats the complete timing structure of a selected fragment across the full pattern, making it easy to transform a small idea into a longer sequence.
DRAG MIDI OR WAV INTO YOUR WORKFLOW
Export the complete pattern or any active selection as MIDI or WAV.
Drop the exported file directly into your DAW, onto the desktop or anywhere else that accepts it. Muted instrument lanes are automatically omitted from exports.
The workflow is simple: generate a rhythmic idea, edit it until it fits your track, then move it into your production without interrupting your creative flow.
SIX FLEXIBLE INSTRUMENT LANES
TheMoth provides six instrument lanes: Kick, Snare, Closed Hat, Open Hat, Ride and Percussion.
These are only default names. Edit any instrument label and use the lanes for other drums, percussion, electronic hits, found sounds or any other one-shot material.
Load your own WAV sample into each lane and use independent Density, Triplet and Volume controls.
TheMoth remembers the last sample folder used for each instrument, allowing you to quickly audition the next or previous WAV without repeatedly reopening the file browser.
TRUE TRIPLET GENERATION
Per-instrument Triplet controls transform existing hits into true triplet groups. This allows selected rhythmic layers to become denser or more unusual without changing the entire pattern.
COPY AND REUSE RHYTHMIC IDEAS
Pattern Save provides an editable text area for rhythmic material during your session.
Copy selected hits to Pattern Save and the system clipboard, then paste the rhythmic material back into Live Preview for further editing.
Sample Source History records the exact WAV paths used in your instrument slots and is stored with the application or plug-in state.
BUILT FOR DIFFERENT DAW BEHAVIOR
DAWs do not all handle keyboard input in the same way. Some hosts intercept shortcuts before they reach plug-ins.
A floating Edit panel provides mouse-accessible equivalents for commands that may be blocked by the host.
A resizable floating Live Preview window with fullscreen mode is also available.
DAW INTEGRATION
TheMoth can follow the host tempo when Sync is enabled or use its own internal BPM.

Clear now removes Live Preview hits and unloads all six samples, while keeping the selected sample folder available.
Loading or replacing a WAV now generates the pattern for that instrument immediately, whether you use Load, drag and drop, or Next/Previous. Generate still creates a fresh full pattern when you choose it.
Sample slots and Live Preview now stay in sync after Clear and sample changes.
