MidiBrain Studio is a harmonic brain that sits between your MIDI keyboard and your DAW. It listens to what you play and answers with what you meant: notes locked to any scale, real chord palettes under single keys, arpeggios that breathe in odd meters — and a bass line written in counterpoint, live, while you play.
It makes no sound of its own. That is the design: MidiBrain publishes a virtual MIDI source ("MIDIBrain Out") that every DAW and standalone instrument on your Mac sees as a hardware keyboard. Logic, Cubase, Ableton Live, Reaper, GarageBand, Kontakt, hardware synths through your interface — your own instruments become the voice of the brain.
THE KEYBOARD, RE-TUNED
Choose one of 29 scales — from Ionian to Hirajoshi to Messiaen — and the keyboard itself is remapped. White keys become the scale degrees, side by side: no wrong notes. Black keys carry the notes outside the scale, in order: dissonance stays under your fingers, on purpose. One click returns the raw chromatic keyboard.
PALETTES, NOT PRESETS
24 chord sets. The 16 Major/Minor palettes are functional harmony: each white key plays the chord of its degree — I major, ii minor, V dominant — mixed the way a session player comps: add9s, slash chords like C/E, sus4 that resolves, secondary dominants. From simple triads to jazz reharmonization, while black keys add passing colors. Eight Cinema sets stay deliberately parallel for trailer-sized fifths. A chord namer shows every chord as it sounds.
AN ARPEGGIATOR WITH A PULSE
Six modes, triplet and dotted rates, four octaves. Velocity PLAYED mode inherits your touch, key by key. Sixteen factory sequences plus a click-to-edit custom pattern. STEPS 1–16 shortens the cycle for 3/4, 7/8, 5/8 — or prime lengths that phase hypnotically against your DAW's 4/4. Gate, swing and dynamic humanize everything.
A BASS PLAYER THAT LISTENS
Flip BASS on and MidiBrain writes a bass line on its own MIDI channel. Root mode anchors fundamentals with voice-leading in true bass register. Walk mode adds counterpoint: it answers in the holes of your sequence, moves contrary to the arp, and approaches every downbeat chromatically. A mini keyboard shows every note it plays.
IN TIME, YOUR WAY
Internal tempo or external MIDI clock — press play in your DAW and the arp realigns to beat one. Hold/latch, CC and pitch-bend thru, and a Panic button (Esc) that silences everything instantly.

No accounts, no analytics, no network access. Your settings never leave your Mac.
