A Royal Game of Ur

The world's oldest board game

Free

Play the 4,600-year-old game of kings — the authentic British Museum board in full 3D on your table, with cunning AI and rich haptics. Four and a half thousand years before chess had rules, the people of Mesopotamia were playing the Royal Game of Ur. Now the world's oldest board game is on your iPhone and iPad — a full 3D board on a walnut table, faithfully modelled on the famous artifact in the British Museum. Race your seven pieces along the board, roll the four ancient tetrahedral dice, capture your opponent on the bridge, and claim the rosettes for extra turns. The rules follow Irving Finkel's celebrated reconstruction, deciphered from a Babylonian cuneiform tablet — so you're playing the game the way it was played in 2600 BCE. FEATURES • Museum-grade 3D board: shell plaques, lapis lazuli, red limestone and gold, recreated tile by tile from artifact 1928,1009.378 • Three AI opponents, from the forgiving Nice Ancestor to the ruthless Overlord with genuine lookahead strategy • A board you can handle: pan, pinch and orbit with your fingers, or jump between Table, Overhead and Seat camera views • Haptics on every roll, move, capture and victory — the dice click like they're in your hand • Learn in one minute: built-in illustrated rules with a route map, move highlighting, and a touch of dry Mesopotamian humour • A history lesson included: discover the story of the game's excavation and decipherment No ads. No account. No data collection. Just the oldest game in the world, and you.
