BookJot: Book Spending Tracker
Your book spending & reading
Only for iPhone
Free · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPhone. Not verified for macOS.
Ever bought the same book twice? Owned one as both an e-book and a paperback? Stood in front of your shelf, unsure whether you already have it? Or paid full price for a book you could have borrowed for free, legally? (Knowing first saves a lot.)
Book Jot started with my own small problem. A while after I began reading e-books, I could no longer remember which app I had bought a book in, or where to open it. Every sale sign got me too, so I was buying faster than I could read, and paperbacks and e-books ended up in one big muddle.
I started with a plain spreadsheet, but it felt lifeless (pretty covers really do make a difference). Then a proper database, which was still hard to open on the go, nothing like a phone app you open and there it is. So in the end I built the app for myself.
Then I showed it off to friends in a book group. Turns out plenty of them wanted to try it, and plenty had the same problems. So I started building it for real (so for real that I now dream of quitting my job to do it full time~).
Many ideas and features come from fellow readers who point me to them, or from scrolling through the problems people share in the group, plus the fun things I want to do with my own pile of books. If you have an idea, I would love to hear it.

• Monthly and yearly reading summaries
• Reading receipts to share, and ranking boards for your favourites
— A TIDY LIBRARY —
• Series in order, so you can see which volume you are missing
• Your own collections and groups, private or shared
• Note books you lend or borrow, and when they are due back
• Scan an ISBN or barcode to add a book in seconds
— PHONE AND WEB —
• One account, the same library on every device
• Open your library on the web too: search it and export it to CSV
— FREE, WITH OPTIONAL PLANS —
Book Jot is free, and everything you need to track your books stays free.
If you want to support it, two optional plans, monthly or yearly:
• Notetaker: no ads, every theme and look in the app, and editing tools on the web
• Archivist: everything in Notetaker, plus the full web toolkit for big libraries: add records from the keyboard, edit many at once, import from KOReader
Made by one person and a few cats. Every piece of feedback is read.
more • Your copies show as little drawings on the book page and in your Library, with flat and drawing styles on Notetaker.
• New stamps: a ticket-style Finished stamp, plus postage and store-colour options on Notetaker.
• The reading page is one notebook card per round; picking a status is a simple grid.
• Series pages show the last volume, your spend and how long you've been reading.
• The Library format filter includes books you logged as purchases. Scanning now fills in the ISBN.
1.7.6 3d ago
• Quarter-star ratings (like 4.25), shown exactly as you gave them.
• Spoilers in reviews are now a whole hidden section.
• Adding or editing a book is faster: one save instead of many, and big photos shrink before upload.
• Book pages open faster.
• Contributor names show in the book's language, in order: author, translator, illustrator, editor. Author and publisher pages list other spellings under the title.
• Search in Discover no longer hangs: after 15 seconds you get a Retry button.
• Fixed: if you set your own page count for a reading, logging sessions and finishing the book now follow it; a license needs an end date before saving.
1.7.4 4d ago
• Add chapter lists to a book yourself: Book page → ⋯ → Create chapter list.
• Clearer form fields, easier to see in light and dark mode.
• Fixed doubled emoji on tags (iOS).
1.7.2 Oct 7
For everyone
• Record how you paid on every receipt — cash, card, PromptPay, coins — in a rebuilt purchase form.
• New filters for Purchases and Borrowings: payment, plan, date and overdue loans.
• Stats: a monthly Borrowing Card and Expense Ledger; Purchases yearly switches between Spent and Paid out.
• Text size up to 150%, 12- or 24-hour time, and library/store descriptions in pickers.
• Search: drag the list to hide the keyboard, and the last results no longer hide behind it.
Notetaker
• Wallet: credit cards, PayLater and coin balances in one place. BookJot works out bill dates from your cut-off and due day, splits instalments, and shows what you still owe. Receipts show "Paid 2/3 · next 5 Nov" and get a PAID OFF stamp. If your plan ends, everything stays readable.
• Pay one receipt more than one way: card + cash + coins. Coin receipts can keep the store's prices.
• Stats › Wallet: how you paid, spend by card, interest, bills by month, coins, and the books you're still paying for.
• Loan dates filled for you from the library's usual loan length, plus "+7 days" and "Same as due".
• Your own fonts, previewed on your library.
1.7.0 Oct 5
• Stats → Wrapup: two new receipts for the month. Monthly Receipt sums up your reading days, time, pages, piles, finished books and spend. Book Activity lists every book you touched, with cover, store and price, grouped by what happened.
• Discover: books you read online are tagged อ่านออนไลน์ / Web on their card, so they no longer look like a duplicate of the print edition.
• Fixed: a sheet could freeze the screen on iPhone after typing in it and dragging it down. Buttons inside sheets respond more reliably.
1.6.2 Sep 30
• Reading and Now reading move onto the book's cover, laid out like an album. Give these screens their own Light or Dark look with the sun/moon button.
• Edit a session's start and end times. Fixed: saving an edited session could reset its pages and note.
• Series: add the missing volumes to your wishlist or library in one tap.
• Filter by where you can get a book: reading apps, e-book libraries, physical libraries and stores, including libraries other members borrowed from.
• Book detail shows each store's rating on its card. Characters use their names in the book's language.
• Reading dates can be set to today on iPhone.
• Settings → Help: tips on Facebook. Supporters find BookJot Web in Settings.
• Sheets close more reliably, plus other fixes.
1.6.1 Sep 30
• Choose how to support Book Jot: Notetaker now has a yearly option, and the new Archivist plan adds more tools for managing a large library on the web. Compare plans and see your local store price in the app.
• Give series and My Groups a new look with covers from the next books you own, stacked behind the first cover (Notetaker and Archivist).
• Keep your chosen Library view while filtering. Find books with improved publisher and imprint filters, and put favourite tags first (Notetaker and Archivist).
• Your inbox is easier to follow with clearer statuses and read/unread states.
• For Free and paid members: when adding a purchase, each item starts with the format suggested by its store; you can still change it.
• Fixes and refinements across the Library, book formats and Settings.
1.6.0 Sep 29
• Collections are back in the Library, with the number of books on every cover
• Your collections remember how you sorted them
• Adding books to a collection now opens on your own shelf — 20 at a time, scroll for more, and search the whole catalogue when you need something you don't own yet
• Give a collection its own cover picture, on public and private collections alike (Plus)
• Your own cover art for a book is now part of Plus — any cover you already made stays, and you can still remove it
• Book fairs show up in the calendar, and tapping a poster opens it full size
• Stats open on this month, never on a month in the future
• Thai book-fair names are no longer cut off in Stats
• The update banner opens the What's-new slides for the release
• Clearer icons on the book tools sheet
• Covers load faster and use less data — your phone keeps them instead of fetching them again every time
• Bug fixes and maintenance
1.5.1 Sep 24
• Can't find a book? Search Open Library right from the search screen and add it in a few taps, with its cover, details and ISBN filled in
• Year in Pixels has a new layout: the controls sit down the side and the grid uses the whole screen
• Calendars are much faster: tapping a day opens its details right away on Monthly, Yearly and Year in Pixels
• A cover still loading shows the book's own colour instead of an empty square
• Stats read naturally in Thai: "อ่านจบ 43 เล่ม"
• Book requests have their own link field, a tip that one link covers a whole series, and a clear note that a shop link is the fastest way in
• The import screen can send you straight to a book request when a title is missing
• Tags speak both languages: a tag with a Thai name shows both, and searching for a tag in Thai finds it
• More tags on Discover: 40 tags to browse, featured tags first
• One book, many ISBNs: scanning the ISBN of a reprint now finds the book, and book info lists other printings' ISBNs
• Where to buy, at a glance: Book Detail shows shops with format and price, cheapest and partner shops first
• The series page shows one card per book, with the edition you own in front
• Book summaries keep their paragraphs
• Smoother scrolling on Discover, reviews and long lists
• Purchases and Borrowings open fast however long your history is
• Bug fixes and maintenance
1.5.0 Sep 22
• Your copies, on the shelf: a book's row now shows the format and store together — "E-book · Naiin Reader" — and lists the other copies you hold underneath
• Choose the badge on the cover: in Book appearance, pick which of your copies stands for the book, or leave it on automatic
• Filter your shelf by what you hold: My Labels now has a second section for formats — see every book you have as a PDF, an EPUB or a paperback
• A note and tags for the whole reading: the reading screen has a Note row (which device, where, why you paused) and shows your own tags for the book
• Dates that match what happened: "last read" shows the date as well as how long ago, pausing or dropping a book dates it to the last day you read it, and one tap sets any status date to that day
• Quicker actions in My Readings: swipe right on a book you are reading to pause or drop it; swipe left to finish or delete, as before
• iOS: every date field now opens a calendar instead of the scrolling wheel
• A series on your shelf says how far you are: "Finished 3/4" on the stack, in the series screen and in your groups
• Your tags on the share card: the receipt and the poster show the tags you gave the book, emoji included
• Reading screen: swipe a sitting to remove it, the same gesture as My Readings
• Monthly summary: the calendar marks the days you wrote a review
• Book page: a cover that is not paperback-shaped now shows whole
• Your own book, your series: while a book you added is on your shelf alone, you can set, change or remove its series like any other field — a title ending in a bare number ("… 2") now counts as volume 2
• The book page and the edit form refresh on open, so a change made moments ago is already there
• iOS: the reading timer's blurred cover is as soft as on Android
• PDF and EPUB badges look the same on the row as on the cover
• Fixed: a book could show two PDF badges; a review could appear twice in Reader reviews; the finish animation stuttered; with a large text size the monthly numbers shrank
• Bug fixes and maintenance
1.4.59 Sep 20
• A clearer look: reading statuses, favourites, wishlist, purchases, borrowings and reviews now use one set of icons and colours everywhere in the app
• New guide: Settings → Color & Icon Guide explains what each one means
• Book page: see how many members finished, are reading, paused or dropped a book, and tap the heart beside the rating to make it a favourite
• Book page: long-press the cover for shortcuts, and a tidier My Book menu
• Home: long-press a book you are reading to log a session or open its reading record
• Reading: a new look for the session screen with the cover behind it; editing a session and picking a chapter are full screens now
• Stats: the monthly calendar marks the day you finished a book, the timeline is easier to scan, and the Stats tab reopens on the view you left it on
• Discover: a card now counts readers of that book rather than its whole series, and volume numbers look the same on every cover
• Fixed: a book could appear twice in My Readings. Doubled records were merged — nothing you logged was lost
• Fixed: two progress bars for one book on Home, and an opening ad that could appear after you had already started using the app
• Bug fixes and maintenance
1.4.58 Sep 20
• Monthly wrap-up: your month at a glance — each book runs across the days you read it, with what you finished, bought and borrowed
• Stats: faster screens and clearer numbers across reading, purchases and borrowings
• Reading time imported from KOReader is now measured like a sitting: a book left open no longer splits one evening into many sessions, so session counts look lower while pages and minutes stay the same
• Home: book spending is shown per currency, and the currently-reading card keeps one shape whatever it holds
• Fixed: a series you picked while adding a book could not be removed again
• Series: anyone can create a series; once it is marked final, only the team can change it
• Thai: durations, dates and formats read in Thai on every stats screen
• What's New lists every release, marked with the store it went to
• Bug fixes and maintenance
1.4.57 Sep 18
• Home: your books as a tile rail, a compact currently-reading bar, and summary tiles shown as a grid or chips — hide the ones you don't use
• My Readings: every reading in one list, with tabs; Reading Detail refreshed
• My Reviews: all your reviews in one place — choose which ones show their words, swipe to change or delete
• Reviews: a private review keeps its words to you; its star rating still counts and appears as a star card
• A reader's reviews of one series show as a single card, with the volumes it covers
• App menu: Readings and Reviews
• Book detail: a book released in parts shows the whole set, with the one you're on highlighted
• Book detail: audiobooks show an Audiobook chip, and books in a series without volume numbers show their own titles
• Series tiles show the series edition, e.g. (Audiobook)
• KOReader import has moved to the BookJot website
• Lighter images, bug fixes and maintenance
1.4.56 Sep 17
• Library: a third view, My groups — arrange your own shelves any way you like, mixing series and single books. Private to you. Free includes 5 groups; Plus has no limit. The view keeps its own sort
• Make a group from a collection you follow in one tap: only the books you own come along
• Series pages count wishlisted volumes separately from the ones on your shelf
• Series edits by members are checked against the book's title, so the catalogue stays clean; anything unclear becomes a correction request
• Collections: three tabs, Following, Created and Public, and the screen speaks your language throughout
• Home shows your name
• Reading timer: stopping from the timer bar no longer counts paused time as reading
• Borrowings: the filter sheet opens on Status, the tab you reach for most
• Book detail: other editions are now grouped by what differs — other languages, other publishers, other editions — each card saying so at a glance
• Series: the online release sits above the volumes on the series page and under Other editions on each volume, so "8 volumes" means volumes; unnumbered specials come last
• Chapter titles bought online show what readers paid for the run, with the chapter count and per-chapter price, plus any free chapters
• Collections credit their source ("cr: …") on the rail and the detail page; add one when you edit a collection
• Discover: reader reviews now include star-only ratings as small cards, and "View more" opens every public review
• Purchases and borrowings: a gentle note when a format looks unusual for that store, and e-book stores suggest E-book (EPUB and PDF picks are fine too)
• Public collections list every public collection, your own included
• Bug fixes and maintenance
