Waterline turns your rowing machine into a boat on open water.
Connect over Bluetooth and every stroke moves a racing shell down a river. Pull harder and it runs faster. Ease off and it settles. Your split, stroke rate and power sit across the top.
FOUR CIRCUITS, AND NO FINISH LINE
Every course is a closed loop, so you are never stopped. Row one lap or twenty - laps are timed as you pass the gate, and your best is saved.
- Emerald City - 5,000 m through a brick university city, under six bridges, past the boathouses.
- Copper Gorge - 6,000 m through a narrow sunrise canyon of steep red rock.
- Emerald Karst - 12,000 m across a flooded tropical valley of limestone towers.
- Sentinel Gorge - 4,000 m through a deep canyon watched over by colossal guardians cut from the rock.
- Sakura Valley - 21,097 m under cherry blossom. A half marathon, lap for lap.
ROW WITH A PACE BOAT, OR A COACH
Set a target split from 3:00 down to 1:30 per 500 m. The pace boat holds it exactly and shows how far up or down you are, metre by metre.
Or switch to the coach, who rows alongside at your rate and talks the whole way - encouragement when you are on it, a word when you drift.
INTERVAL TRAINING, WITH SOMETHING TO ROW TO
Build a session in a few taps - warm-up, efforts, pace, recovery, cool-down - and save it to row again. Ask for a descending set and each effort comes a few seconds faster than the last.
The targets and countdowns sit on screen, with a chime at every change so you never have to look up mid-stroke. Add the pace boat to row against them, or the coach to talk you through - or neither, and just row the timers.
At the finish, every effort is scored against its target.
ROW ONLINE WITH OTHER PEOPLE
Tap ROW ONLINE and you join whoever else is rowing your course, right now. No lobby, no invite codes, no waiting - the courses are loops, so you simply appear on the water and row. A panel lists the ten nearest rowers with their names, their gap and their pace.
The menu shows how many are out on each course before you commit. Pace boats are out at a spread of paces too - pick one and you start just off its stern, with the whole row to reel it in.
Everything else works offline. Waterline never needs a connection to row - the pace boat, the coach and every course are yours without one.
SEND YOUR ROWS TO STRAVA
Connect your Strava account once and Waterline offers to upload each piece when you finish it. Distance, time, split, stroke rate, power, heart rate, calories and stroke count go up as a rowing activity, second by second - and an interval session arrives with one lap per effort.
It is a choice you make per row, never a default. Demo rows are never offered at all, so nothing you did not actually pull can reach your training log.
Waterline is compatible with Strava. An account is optional - everything else works without one.
MAKE IT YOURS
Pick your boat's colours and your kit from a club palette - deck, sheer stripe and blades in one colour, your kit in another. Everyone you row with online sees them.
WEAR A HEART-RATE STRAP
Any Bluetooth strap works. Your heart rate joins the display and goes to Strava with the rest of the row.
BUILT TO FEEL LIKE THE WATER
- A fully articulated rower - male or female - through catch, drive, finish and recovery, with the oars in their hands the whole stroke.
- Blades that bite and release at the right moment, and leave puddles behind.
MADE FOR YOUR SCREEN
Scale the display to taste - useful with the phone propped on the machine's rail. Choose which figures it shows, in what order, and which is the big one, without leaving the water.
REQUIREMENTS
- iPhone or iPad, iOS 14 or newer.
- A rowing machine whose monitor broadcasts over Bluetooth Low Energy - remembered, and reconnecting by itself next time. No machine? Demo mode plays every course with nothing attached.
- A Bluetooth heart-rate strap is optional.
- No account needed to row. No ads. A Strava account is optional.
