BriZip
ZIP files Windows can read

Mac
Mac ZIPs that open cleanly on Windows. Japanese file names survive the trip, with AES-256 or Explorer-compatible passwords. Everything stays on your Mac.
BriZip is a Mac app for creating ZIP files that keep Japanese file names readable on Windows.
When you create a ZIP on a Mac and send it to someone using Windows, Japanese file names can sometimes appear as garbled text. BriZip addresses that problem when the archive is created.
Drag files or folders onto either “Send to Windows” or “Mac / general,” and BriZip creates a ZIP suited to the destination.
SEND TO WINDOWS
• File names can be written in CP932 for compatibility with Japanese Windows and older unzip tools
• Decomposed Unicode characters are normalized from NFD to NFC
• macOS metadata such as .DS_Store, __MACOSX and AppleDouble files is left out
• Characters Windows cannot store are adjusted automatically
• Reserved Windows names such as CON and NUL are handled automatically
• Trailing dots and spaces are adjusted for Windows compatibility
If a file name contains characters that cannot be represented in CP932, BriZip automatically uses UTF-8 instead.
SEND TO MAC, LINUX OR GENERAL USE
• File names are written in UTF-8 with the language encoding flag set
• Unicode names are normalized to NFC
• Symbolic links and file permissions are preserved
• Suitable for Mac, Linux and modern Windows systems
PASSWORD-PROTECTED ZIP FILES
BriZip supports two encryption methods:
• AES-256 — strong encryption for sensitive files
• ZipCrypto — intended for compatibility with recipients who need to open the ZIP directly in Windows File Explorer
AES-256 ZIP files require compatible software such as 7-Zip, WinRAR or similar applications on Windows.
OPENING ZIP FILES
Drop a ZIP file onto BriZip to extract it.
BriZip automatically examines how file names were encoded and attempts to decode them correctly using information stored in the archive and common encodings including UTF-8, CP932 and CP437.
This also helps with Windows-made ZIP files whose file names may appear garbled in some Mac applications.
Password-protected ZIP files using ZipCrypto or AES are supported.
BriZip also protects against archive paths that attempt to write files outside the selected extraction folder.
BUILT FOR ZIP
BriZip focuses specifically on the ZIP format.
ZIP reading and writing are implemented directly in the app so that file-name encoding, Unicode normalization, ZIP flags, encryption and compatibility behavior can be controlled precisely.
