SurfaceScan Standard for Apple Vision Pro provides two preserved bounded capture sources. Native Vision Pro mode uses public world tracking and scene reconstruction to retain only measured geometry that intersects one adjustable six-plane box. Paired iPhone RGB-D mode lets a nearby iPhone or iPad running SurfaceScan remain the metric camera and fusion authority while Vision Pro provides remote controls, status, an always-visible head-locked coloured preview, protected review, and export.
The nearby connection is consent-authorized, local, and encrypted. SurfaceScan does not receive unrestricted camera video; it receives bounded colour RGB-D samples, calibration and pose information, status, display previews, and separately finalized mesh data. After current-launch acceptance, Build 42 can automatically receive one or several compatible camera peers while explicit Stop, Disconnect, source, and native-fallback controls remain available. A transport-connected peer is not application-ready until its SurfaceScan role, Build 42, protocol, and current membership pass verification. Vision Pro requests capture but does not claim that capture has started until the iOS camera reports its authoritative consent, permission, tracking, and scanning state. Incoming encoded live packets coalesce before decode; dedicated codec and fusion queues allow one in-flight frame and only the newest pending frame per peer. Aggregate partial receives are capped at 96 MiB and 32 transfers. Startup, known-camera, and hello recovery are bounded to five, six, and eight attempts respectively. Live preview data is latest-only and never exportable. A dense Final may be transport-reduced and marked incomplete; Save or Share remains disabled until a complete protected Final is received. No cloud relay is used.
Native Standard mode uses public scene reconstruction and does not claim access to raw passthrough RGB. Public scene reconstruction may omit people or close-range body surfaces. When no public geometry intersects the box, SurfaceScan reports that limitation instead of fabricating a mesh. Enterprise mode may additionally use approved main-camera RGB only with Apple's entitlement, profile, license, hardware, and runtime authorization.
Automatic discovery can be retried from the app and system permission can be reviewed in Settings. Choosing the native Vision Mesh source explicitly is authoritative: it stops automatic paired-source switching until the operator re-enables automatic connectivity. All processing and file creation remain local to the selected devices. SurfaceScan has no account, advertising, developer analytics, tracking, or automatic cloud upload. SurfaceScan is a surface digitisation utility and not a diagnostic or treatment device.
