A focused native editor with flexible panes, folder-wide search, highlighting for 69 languages, and careful encoding and line-ending handling. Linelark Notepad is a native macOS editor for people who want more precision than a basic notepad without the weight of a full IDE. Open a file or folder and start working. Keep documents in tabs, arrange editors in flexible panes, search and replace across a folder, and use precise line and column tools for repetitive edits. Linelark pays special attention to files that do not fit the default. It detects and preserves line endings, supports 11 text encodings, lets you reinterpret a wrong encoding guess, and provides syntax highlighting for 69 languages. Highlights: • Native macOS interface with light, dark, and system appearance • Tabs plus two-, three-, and four-pane layouts • Folder tree, function list, bookmarks, and document map • Find and replace in files with filters and clickable results • Column selection and practical line operations • Encoding and line-ending detection, preservation, and conversion • Session restore, file associations, and external-change handling • Five original editor themes Linelark Notepad is free, works without an account, and processes your documents locally on your Mac. Requires macOS 14 or later.

What's New Editing - Back and Forward (⌘[ / ⌘]) return to the places you were just reading. - The caret can stand past the end of a line, so moving down through ragged text keeps its column. - Wrapped lines are marked where the editor broke them, so a long line still reads as one line. - Bookmarks are saved with your session and come back with their tab. Find - ^ and $ now mean the start and end of a line in regular expressions, not of the whole file — so ^import finds every one of them. - A pattern is judged against the whole buffer, so word boundaries and look-arounds are correct at the edges of a match. - Opening the find bar puts the keyboard in the search field. Files and the sidebar - The folder tree and its panels keep up with changes made outside the editor. - Reveal in Folder Tree, from a tab's menu or from a Find in Files result. - The sidebar shows which row it is on, and recognises files that are not for editing from their own bytes rather than from a list of names. Windows - ⌘W closes the tab; the window stays, showing the welcome page — which lists your recent files and projects and can start a workspace from one. - New windows open on the welcome page, with suggestions for what makes this a development environment. Previews and plugins - A plugin preview can carry a diagram Linelark draws itself — pinch to zoom, drag to pan. - The Preview button remembers itself per file type, so the next file of that kind opens the way you left it. - A plugin now declares which version of Linelark it needs, so one that is too new says so instead of installing and then refusing to load. Printing - Documents are laid out for the paper rather than for the window: correct pagination, and readable output whatever theme you edit in. Under the hood - Unsaved work is backed up as you type, rather than by copying whole buffers on a timer.
