Edit a long interview by text, pick a target length, review the captions SubTrim proposes, and confirm what to keep. Nothing is cut until you do. Edit video by deleting text. SubTrim writes the transcript, and when you delete a caption the footage under it goes too, with no gap left behind. Your media is not uploaded, and there is no account or sign-in. Importing, transcribing, editing, and styling are free. Exporting needs a purchase: a one-time unlock or a subscription (see PRICING). Made for creators, podcasters, interviewers, and educators. Audio files import like video. CUT BY EDITING TEXT • Delete a caption and the footage under it goes with it. Undo brings it back. • When the dead air isn't a whole caption, mark a range on the waveform and cut that instead. • Remove silence in one pass: set a threshold and tick the gaps you want gone. • Cut to a highlight reel: pick a target length, review the captions SubTrim proposes, and confirm what to keep. Nothing is cut until then. • Find and Replace, split and merge captions, and jump to the ones SubTrim was least sure of. RECOGNIZES 100 LANGUAGES • Pick the language or let SubTrim detect it: 100 languages, listed as 101 entries because Traditional and Simplified Chinese are separate. TRANSLATE AND SUMMARIZE ON YOUR DEVICE • Translate captions into 18 languages as a second track. The original is never touched. • Show the original, both languages, or the translation only, in the list, preview, and exports. • Summarize a long recording into a short brief. • Recognition, translations, summaries, and highlight picks are machine-generated and can be wrong. Read them over before you publish. STYLE THE CAPTIONS • Font, size, spacing, color, stroke, background box, shadow, entrance animation, and karaoke highlighting. • Drag captions on the preview to move, rotate, or scale them. • Give one caption its own style, and its translation its own. Save presets. WHAT YOU GET • Your cut as MP4 (H.264 or HEVC) or MOV, with captions burned in or left off. • Captions as SRT, WebVTT, or plain text, next to the video or on their own. • A transparent caption-only video in ProRes 4444 or HEVC with alpha. • 16:9, vertical 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, or 21:9, at your chosen size and frame rate. At import, Automatic picks the closest ratio to your footage. • Hand-off files for other editors: FCPXML 1.9, Premiere XML (xmeml), or EDL. Premiere XML and EDL carry no captions, so export SRT or WebVTT too. ON YOUR DEVICE • Recognition, translation, and summaries run on your device and work with Wi-Fi off. So does export once SubTrim is unlocked. • The App Store (prices, purchase, restore) is the only thing that uses the network. • No analytics, no telemetry, no advertising. REQUIREMENTS macOS 15 or later on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). Bundled models make the download large; there are no model downloads later. • Refreshed the Caption Style, Language, and Split at Cursor toolbar icons so they look the same everywhere. When the system language is Traditional Chinese, the old icons could show a stray Chinese character in the English interface.
