Record, dictate, and keep notes, sketches and reminders with every recording — all on your own phone. Video and dictation come with a one-month free trial. Record a thought, a lecture, a practice session or a moment on video, keep notes and sketches with it, and keep all of it on the phone that captured it. Press record and it starts: elapsed time on screen, the file growing beside it, and a live trace driven by the microphone itself — so a recording made against a muted or refused microphone shows as silence while you can still do something about it. Pause and pick the thread back up. Mark a moment as it happens and find it again on the waveform. A session that captured nothing is thrown away rather than filed. Audio is written uncompressed, at 44.1 kHz, as a plain WAV, so the waveform is the real shape of the recording, the trim cuts where you asked, and a join is a join rather than a re-encode. DICTATION (subscribers) • Speak and the words appear as you go; correct them in place, then keep them • Kept as a recording with the words alongside, in your audio list • Turned into text on the phone where it can do that itself; otherwise by Apple's speech recognition service. Never by us NOTES, SKETCHES AND REMINDERS • Notes on any recording: what to work on, what went wrong, who was playing • Sketches and handwriting beside the notes — write out a bar, a fingering or a chord, in five colours and three pen sizes • A reminder on a recording's notes, at a date and time you choose • A daily reminder to record, which skips a day you have already recorded something • Every reminder waiting on the phone listed in Settings: cancel any one, and Restore brings it back • All set on the phone itself; nothing is sent anywhere to schedule them PLAYING IT BACK • A waveform under the scrubber, filled as far as you have played • Markers on the waveform and along the scrubber • Speeds from 0.25x to 5x, and skip back or forward fifteen seconds • Loop nothing, one recording, or the lot • Keeps playing when you leave the app, with controls on the lock screen • Video plays in place or full screen (subscribers) FINDING IT AGAIN • Search by name • Newest, oldest or longest — or drag the list into an order of your own • Star the ones that matter and show only those • Poster frames on video, so a list of clips is a list of pictures TIDYING UP • Rename, trim, and join several into one • Select several at once to share or delete • Recordings are ordinary files in the app's own folder, visible in the Files app; drop a file in and it becomes a playable recording FREE, AND FOR SUBSCRIBERS Free: audio recording and playback, markers, trim, join, notes, sketches and every reminder. For subscribers: video recording, video playback and dictation. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Nothing you record — audio, video, dictation, notes or sketches — is ever uploaded. No account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking. The privacy policy lists the only things that can leave the phone: an email address if you claim access that has been given to it, and a user ID, device ID and purchase history for subscriptions and for push notifications, which are off until you turn them on. SUBSCRIPTION Media Recorder offers two auto-renewing subscriptions with the same features: Recorder Monthly (one month) and Recorder Quarterly (three months). Each starts with a one-month free trial for new subscribers; when the trial ends it becomes a paid subscription at the price shown, unless cancelled at least 24 hours before. The price is shown in the app before anything is bought, and varies by country. Payment is charged to your Apple Account. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before that period ends. Manage or cancel it in your App Store account settings; cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves the current period running.
