PixelPopper!
Ad free pixel paint-by-number
$2.99 · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Now with a museum wing, 12,000-pixel option, landmarks, maps, and Saint-Saëns' Swan. Still no ads. Ur not a recurring revenue stream to us <3
Are you a working millennial parent who is afraid of what you'll do the next time your toddler clicks some ad-bait link inside one of -those- apps? You know the ones. Do you feel a little piece of you die when your kid brings you the same birthday-gate screen and asks why you have to subscribe, and you wonder how to explain late-stage capitalism to an eight-year-old but in, like, a friendly way?
Me too! I still remember when we tied onions to our belts and bought apps with real money and then owned them. Like land, or cattle!
So I made PixelPopper: a pixel paint-by-number app that costs $2.99 once and then leaves your wallet alone forever. No ads. No subscriptions. No "sweetie we only have that feature unlocked on mama's iPad." Not even a "watch a video to unlock." No analytics for Baby's First Data Broker.
And it doesn't even use the internet! Who cares if the plane doesn't have Starlink! At least THIS one works!

STUFF YOU CAN PAINT
Things! Unicorn, space alien, kitty cat, puppy dog, triple-scoop ice cream, the whole food-and-fantasy pyramid. Adding more with each update.
Masterpieces! For the cultured, discerning tyke: the Great Wave, some guy screaming on a bridge, some Bruegel deep cuts. Some antique pixel art they call "pointillist" for some reason. Hieronymus Bosch pending behavioral review.
Maps! accurate ones: all fifty states, every country in Africa, Europe, Asia, South America, the whole world.
Photos! point it at anything — the dog, the grandparents, a suspiciously large stick — and it becomes a poppable puzzle.
Literally whatever you imagine! Draw your own in a blank grid where kids draw their own pixel art and save it as a puzzle for someone else.
---
And when you're done, time lapse your coloring progress in a GIF you can send around to your family and friends.
Also (mostly for grown-ups): pencil mode makes a satisfying little pop on every pixel press, which I find sorta calming. On iPhone every pop comes with a tiny thump. With an Apple Pencil Pro it pops in your hand. You can poke at it until you calm down or the train reaches your stop, idk.
One price and yours forever to carry with you like a lab-grown diamond or some microplastics
NEW IN 1.2
A swan! Saint-Saëns' Le Cygne joins the music box and opens every painting session as our new signature song.
Landmarks! A whole new shelf, 16 wonders from The Sears Tower to Buckingham Fountain to Marina uhh, yeah and other stuff that's not from the best city in the world like the Eiffel Tower or whatever.
Ultra detail! A new, incredible level of detail available for the photos you upload (and a crop option so you don't have to fill in that kind of detail for the bits of the painting you don't really care about.
A better museum! The same ultra resolution is now available for our artwork collection, to which we've also added a few extra masterpieces. In keeping with our breathless dedication to teaching toddlers some culture we also now feature proper museum placards. Medium of pixels on iPad.
The end of history is officially cancelled! Get your kids ready for the fun new era of geopolitical chaos they're inheriting with a revised maps function that announces the name of the country or state every time you fill in a new one.
Notes for sending GIFs! Tell grandma you love her or ideally other wholesome things like that with a write-your-own message function that accompanies the GIF-sending function.
A better user experience! A few of these:
1. A new 'Make Your Own!' tile on the main page takes you to build a picture from scratch, or turn a photo into one. Once you've made something, the tile becomes 'Your Stuff!'
2. If you're stuck on the last few pixels of a color, look out for a new hint button that appears when there are fewer than 25 pixels left to pop: they'll flash in rainbow a couple times for you.
3. Hold a finger on any of the round buttons and it'll tell you what it does.
No ads or subscriptions or in-app purchases or internet access required this is just yours to own like land, cattle and the illusion of permanence.
AND FROM 1.1 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT WHICH YOU DID BECAUSE WE DIDN'T TELL ANYONE THIS APP EXISTED AT THE TIME EXCEPT FOR A GROUP OF 4 GRADE SCHOOL CHILDREN
Collections! The home screen is now one big shelf of picture families. Unicorns, Dinos (hi Max!), Magic & Fantasy, Cars & Trucks, Plants, Pets, Wild Animals, Space, Fall, Tasty Treats, Art, and Maps.
Design mode! Change the colors however you want, make it prettier, make it absurd, express yourself. Turn all the countries in the world map one color just for the love of the game. One tap brings the original back if you can't handle it anymore.
Background music! Full-length chiptune renditions of Satie, Debussy, Chopin, Saint-Saëns, Grieg and Liszt & friends. Two styles: Pixel (8-bit handheld backseat road trip, you know the deal) and Dreamy (music box). Zero tinny kids-app loops, just pure unadulterated CULTURE. Includes Saint-Saëns' Aquarium (does not translate well into MIDI but we thought it sounded super cool so we left it in and consider this a contribution to science).
Send puzzles to your family! Long-press anything you made, Send to a Friend, and it opens right in their PixelPopper. No accounts or sign-ups, just AirDrop or Messages, like passing a note.
