A lightweight macOS music player. No internet needed. Color themes, classic .wsz skins, a 10-band EQ. You don't need to launch a bloated streaming app for an MP3 file.
dwanim it is a small, lightweight music player for macOS.
Where the name comes from: dwanim it takes its name from Dwennimmen, an Adinkra symbol of the Akan people of West Africa — two rams' horns facing each other. It stands for humility and wisdom kept intact by those who hold strength or authority.
- Small and light
A few MB installed, and no third-party dependencies. The default interface is a single column: spectrum, transport, playlist and equalizer all in front of you, nothing buried in a menu.
- Feel like digging out an old .wsz skin?
If you still have a .wsz skin file from the 2000s lying around, dwanim it can probably read it — and if all goes well, the whole player turns into three separate windows: main, equalizer, playlist.
dwanim it doesn't bundle any skin files, because we trust you'll find them somewhere online.
Chinese and Japanese track titles display properly in skinned mode too: the bitmap fonts in these retro skins usually only cover the Latin alphabet, so dwanim it switches to a system font when it meets non-Latin characters, instead of drawing blanks.
If you'd rather not load a retro skin, that's fine — the default interface is complete on its own.
- Try a different color?
Three built-in palettes: Graphite, Amber Deck and Indigo Glass, with a few more to download from the website. You can also write your own: a .dwtheme is a few lines of color settings — change one color and the rest is inherited. Once loaded it is remembered, so you can delete the original file.
- A real 10-band equalizer
Ten bands with actual DSP behind them, not a decorative row of sliders. Move one and you hear it. Four presets, and the setting follows you between both interfaces.
- No ads, no tracking, no account, nothing in the way
dwanim it has no network permission. Not "we don't collect anything" — it has no way to reach the network at all. No analytics, no telemetry, no account, no ads. What you listen to stays with you.
