Mac
Scan any folder or drive and see exactly what is filling it. A sorted folder tree, every large file ranked, and an interactive map. Read only: nothing is ever deleted.
Disk Space Usage answers one question: where did your storage go?
Point it at a folder, a drive, or an external disk. It measures every file inside and shows you exactly what is taking up the room, from the largest folder all the way down to the individual file.
FIVE WAYS TO LOOK AT YOUR STORAGE
Overview
Totals at a glance: what the scan accounts for, how much free space the volume has left, and a breakdown by file type across Videos, Photos, Audio, Applications, Developer, Documents, Archives, Disk Images, and System and Other. The biggest folders and the biggest files are listed side by side.
All Files
A Finder-style outline of everything, sorted biggest first at every level. Each row shows its share of the enclosing folder, its size, how many items it holds, and when it last changed. Open a folder to see what is inside, and keep going as deep as you like.
Largest Files
Every file in the scan in a single ranked list, ignoring folder structure entirely. Show the top 100, 500, 1,000 or 5,000, narrow it to one file type or a name, and sort by any column.
Treemap
An interactive, color-coded map where the area of each tile is its size. Click to select, double-click a folder to zoom in, and use the breadcrumb trail to come back out.
Sunburst
The same picture drawn as concentric rings, so you can see how one folder divides all the way down.
BUILT TO BE FAST
The scanning engine reads directories in bulk and in parallel, rather than asking macOS about one file at a time. In testing, a folder holding 634,000 files measured in about five seconds. Folders your Mac has not read recently take longer, because the time then goes to the drive rather than the app.
MEASURES WHAT MACOS ACTUALLY DOES
- Apparent size and size on disk, switchable throughout
- Resource forks included, so sizes match Finder
- Hard-linked files counted once, not several times
- Apps, frameworks and photo libraries shown as single items
- Symbolic links measured but never followed
- Other volumes and mount points skipped, so nothing is counted twice
READ ONLY, BY DESIGN
Disk Space Usage never modifies, moves or deletes anything. There is no delete button, and the app never asks for permission to write to your files. When you find something you want to deal with, Reveal in Finder takes you straight to it and you decide what happens next.
PRIVACY
No account. No network connection. No analytics, no tracking, no data collection of any kind. What the app measures stays on your Mac.
REQUIREMENTS
macOS 14 or later. macOS asks you to grant access the first time you scan a folder. The app runs in the App Sandbox, so it measures only the locations you choose to give it.
