Deflate: Compress PDF & JPG
PDFs & photos to an exact size
Free
The form gave you a number, not a quality slider. Name your size in KB - for a PDF or a photo - and Deflate tells you honestly what it actually reached.
Every upload form asks for a number. Under 200 KB. Under 500 KB. Under 1 MB.
Most compressors answer with "low, medium, high" and leave you to guess, re-export, and guess again. Deflate takes the number you were actually given, works toward it, and then tells you the truth about the file it produced.
A TARGET IN KILOBYTES
Choose your output, JPEG or PDF, then pick a size the way the form asked for it: 20, 50, 100, 200 KB and up, or type your own. No vague "low, medium, high". No exporting three times to see what sticks.
AN HONEST RESULT
Every file has a floor. A dense multi-megapixel scan cannot become a legible 40 KB file - past a point, hitting the number means destroying the page you needed to keep.
Deflate stops at that floor, hands back the smallest readable version, and tells you plainly what it reached against what you aimed for. A file that went from 9.6 MB to 187 KB is a genuinely useful result even when the target said 40. You will never get a ruined page that technically complies, and never a dead-end error instead of the work already done.
PHOTOS, CUT TO SPEC
Crop to passport 35x45 mm, a signature strip, a square, or freeform. Deflate resizes to the exact pixel dimensions at 300 dpi, then hits your target KB WITHOUT shrinking the photo below the size the form demands - because forms check both, and quietly reducing the dimensions is how a photo gets rejected.
REAL TEXT STAYS SHARP
Deflate reads each page before touching it. Pages with genuine, selectable text pass through untouched, still sharp at any zoom. Only scanned pages - pictures of text - are re-encoded, so in a mixed document the typed pages stay perfect.
For scans, choose Colour when colour carries meaning, or Black & White for printed and handwritten text: it evens out uneven lighting and keeps letter edges crisp.
SCANS THAT CAN BE SEARCHED
Make Searchable reads the text in a scan and lays an invisible, selectable layer over it. The page looks identical, but the PDF becomes searchable and its text can be copied. The original stays underneath, untouched.
THE REST OF THE PAPERWORK
- Merge several files into one
- Pull out a page range, or split every page into its own file
- Rotate pages and drag them into the right order
- Turn a pile of photos into a single PDF, one page each
- Compress a multi-page document to JPEG and get one image per page - free
Phone photos land the right way up, because Deflate reads the orientation your camera recorded instead of ignoring it.
NOTHING LEAVES YOUR DEVICE
This is not a policy promise layered over a server. There is no server, and no way to reach one: Deflate contains no networking code at all. Compression, text recognition, and everything else run on your device using Apple own frameworks.
No account. No login. No cloud sync. No analytics. No third-party SDKs. No ads, in any tier, ever.
