AIS Fleet lets you watch the boats and ships on the water, from the harbour to the shipping lanes, all over the world’s oceans. If you like, follow the ones that matter to you: a friend’s boat on a circumnavigation, the cruise ship carrying your family, the ferry, the ship you want to photograph or your yacht club’s fleet. You are told when they get under way and when they arrive.
You do not need a boat of your own. Watching the map is free and unlimited, following up to five boats is free, and the free plan does not expire.
SEE WHAT IS ON THE WATER
• Live AIS traffic from the AIS Fleet network of shore stations and contributing boats.
• Open any boat for what AIS reports: type, flag, size, speed and course, when she was last heard, and her track.
• Search by name, MMSI, call sign or IMO number.
• Filter by vessel type, from sailing boats to cargo ships.
FOLLOW THE ONES THAT MATTER
• Follow any vessel on AIS and tag along on her adventures and journeys.
• Departures and arrivals reach you by push notification, by e-mail or in the app.
• Make lists to group the boats you follow, and subscribe to lists other members share.
FLEETS
• Clubs, rallies and associations put their boats on one fleet map with one chat. The organizer adds your boat and you are in at once.
MESSAGES AND PHOTOS
• Write to the boater behind a boat you follow, to anyone who follows yours, and to your fleet mates. You can block anyone.
• Photograph a vessel for the shared catalog, and see the photos others have contributed.
DO YOU HAVE A BOAT?
• Claim her with her MMSI and a document that shows she is yours. Her followers can write to you, and she can join fleets.
• A boat is optional, but it enhances the experience.
DO YOU HAVE AN AIS RECEIVER?
• Connect an AIS receiver on your boat’s Wi-Fi and the boats it hears join the map within seconds while the app is on screen. What it hears is contributed to AIS Fleet, which is how there is coverage where no shore station reaches.
• A receiver is optional; it enriches the experience but is never required.

Useful, good data, easy to use for anyone curious about what’s on the water

I’ve been using AIS Fleet for a while now and it’s become the app I open first whenever I want to see what’s out on the water. As someone who spends a lot of time on a boat, I appreciate how straightforward it is. You can search for a vessel, follow it, and actually get useful alerts when it leaves or arrives. No digging around or fighting the interface. The map is clean, coverage is solid in the areas I care about, and the details it shows (type, speed, course, last heard, track) are easy to read at a glance. What I like most is that it feels built for people who actually look at boats, not just professionals tracking commercial traffic. Following a few specific vessels, checking the traffic around an anchorage, or just seeing what’s moving nearby is simple. The free tier is generous enough that I don’t feel limited for everyday use, and the ability to group boats or join shared fleets is handy when you’re keeping an eye on friends or a rally. It’s the kind of app that stays on my phone because it does the job without getting in the way. If you like watching ships and boats or need a practical way to keep track of a few vessels, it’s worth trying.

Thank you for such a detailed review. We are boaters ourselves and built AIS Fleet with fellow boaters in mind, so it means a lot to hear that it’s become your go-to app. We’re glad you’re finding the alerts and shared fleets useful!
Simply great!

When I say “simply”, I really mean it. It has all the stuff you need and none of the stuff you don’t. I have an actual AIS transmitter/receiver on my boat so I get that in real time when I’m out on the water for marine traffic so don’t need all the ad-bloated AIS apps. When I wonder where all my sailor friends are cruising around the wonderful places in the world with their boats or whether they’ve arrived at an anchorage they were going to or left for their next destination, this is what does the job well. It’s very easy to follow them, get notifications etc. just like how you follow a friend on a social networking app. It filters tracks so only shows you their cruising routes rather than overwhelm you with their each tack/jibe, which you really don’t need unless you’re racing them in a regatta but you don’t really need an app for that.

Thank you for the thoughtful review. Keeping things simple and focused on what boaters actually need is exactly what we're aiming for. Happy boating!
My favorite social networking app on the water.

I love this app—it's everything I ever wanted from MarineTraffic and more. It's so easy to find and keep tabs on my friends' boats, and then expand the coverage with other traffic from fleets and lists. It took a moment for me to understand the difference and the resolution with which I can configure notifications on my phone! Ditto goes for what traffic gets overlaid on the chart. OMG, this app is so beyond and addictive!

Great app for following boats and family members!

Great app for keeping up with family members who own boats or are out cruising. I use it to follow my uncle, who is a long-distance cruiser, and see where his travels take him. It’s also fun to look up interesting boats and vessels I come across on Lake Michigan or in San Francisco Bay during my occasional visits. Easy to use and a great way to stay connected to the boating world!

• Opening a boat from search or a list now brings the map in closer.
• The locate button now finds where you are on every tap.
• In Your photos, you can now see how many are awaiting review and how many are published, and show any photo's boat on the map.
• You can now remove a follower.
• Fixes and improvements throughout.
