Afterchange answers three questions: what changed, when it changed, and why it might matter.
It watches applications, launch items, login items, extensions, configuration profiles and network DNS, proxy and interface state. Later scans compare against a known-good baseline and record added, removed and modified items on a local timeline.
Start Monitoring captures Snapshot #1. Scan Now, or leave Afterchange open and it will keep comparing on an interval you choose. It stops when you quit.
System folders are read only after you grant them. You can grant all full folders, or pick individual subfolders. Each grant uses the standard Open panel. Afterchange remembers that access. Nothing from those folders is sent off this computer.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
6 months of snapshots, security findings, baselines, custom rules, on-device explanations, reports, export, notifications, drift policy (alerts only) and an audit of Afterchange settings. The known-good baseline is kept even if it is older than 6 months.
PRIVACY
Snapshots, changes, findings, rules and folder grants stay on this computer. There is no telemetry, advertising or analytics of system configuration. The app works without the internet. Optional web lookup is off by default. If you turn it on, only a component name is sent — never a snapshot or folder listing.
WHAT AFTERCHANGE IS NOT
It is not antivirus, MDM or EDR. It does not block software, quarantine files or enforce policy. It sits above those tools and explains change.
It only records a change if that item appeared in a snapshot. Some login items, profile contents and loaded-only extensions are incomplete. Afterchange does not invent a change it did not observe.
