New in 1.1: pages like a printed book — headers, footers, footnotes, sections and columns — plus couplet explanations and word meanings with Qalam Pro.
Qalam is a word processor built for Urdu — not an English program with Urdu added on.
WRITE IN BEAUTIFUL NASTALIQ
Text is set in true Nastaliq, with generous line spacing and correct right-to-left behaviour everywhere. Type phonetically (write it as you say it), in Roman Urdu that turns into Urdu as you type, or with the system Urdu keyboard.
PAGES LIKE A PRINTED BOOK
• Page view: separate sheets that break exactly where print does
• Headers and footers with their own font, colour, rule and logo — a different first page, and different odd and even pages for books
• Page numbers in Urdu or English digits, footnotes at the foot of their page
• Sections with their own paper, margins, headers and numbering; columns, balanced on the page
• Page colour, watermark and decorative page borders
POETRY, PROPERLY
Mark lines as verse and every مصرع stretches to the longest, as in a printed divan — on screen, in PDF and on shareable couplet cards. Couplet rows, a ghazal template, and scansion (تقطیع) that names the metre.
A COMPLETE WORD PROCESSOR
Spelling check against a 105,000-word Urdu dictionary, with your own words. Bullets and numbering, links and bookmarks, pictures, clip art, tables and text boxes, comments and track changes, find and replace. Paste from other documents and web pages with formatting and tables. Print with a preview.
RESCUE INPAGE DOCUMENTS
Open old .inp and .int files directly, typefaces included.
SHARE AND PUBLISH
Save as PDF, Word (.docx) or plain text, or turn a couplet into an elegant image card with your تخلص. Design calligraphic title art. In Finder, press space on a Qalam document to preview it.
QALAM PRO (in-app purchase)
• Explain a couplet: prose, explanation, difficult words, literary devices and the metre
• Word meanings: pronunciation, origin, senses with examples, synonyms and antonyms
• Read aloud in Pakistani Urdu voices
• Batch conversion of whole InPage folders, the title-art studio, and metre fix suggestions
The AI tools run on your own API key, and your text is sent only when you ask.
The interface is in Urdu or English.
