Markdown files (.md) are everywhere now — AI assistants, developers and note-taking apps all hand them out. But double-click one on a Mac and you get raw text full of # and * symbols.
markdown.md fixes that. Drop a .md file on the app and it renders as a clean, readable document: headings, lists, tables, quotes and code, in a typography that respects the text. No accounts, no settings, no cloud.
READ
- Opens .md files directly from Finder, Mail or Downloads
- Light and dark mode, following your system
- Four text sizes and a serif/sans toggle
- Long document? An outline rail in the margin and View ▸ Headings take you to any heading
- Quick Look: press Space on any .md file in Finder
EDIT
- Switch to Edit for a plain-text editor with the same font sizes
- A Format menu for bold, italic, headings and links
- Press Esc to go back to the document, right where you were
- Reading never touches your file. Edits save automatically.
EXPORT
- Word (.docx) with real headings, lists and tables — not pasted text
- PDF, paginated for A4, ready to send or print
- Copy Formatted pastes clean text and tables straight into Mail, Word or Numbers
- Preview before you export

- Jump to any heading from the outline rail in the margin, or from View ▸ Headings.
- A Format menu for bold, italic, headings and links.
- Press Esc in the editor to go back to the preview, right where you were.
- Copy Formatted (⌥⌘C) pastes clean text and real tables into Mail, Word, Numbers and Excel. Regular copy is cleaned up too.
- Changing the text size keeps your place in the document.
- Send feedback straight from the Help menu.
