Practice scanning. Build confidence/independence. Freeman Companion for Mac works with Practice with Freeman (iPhone) for Dexcom G7 scanning practice & printable labels.
When inserting a Dexcom G7 continuous glucose monitor on your own, one of the required steps is scanning the DataMatrix code on the applicator with an iPhone. For some people, particularly elderly users, successfully aiming the camera and scanning this code can be difficult, potentially creating a barrier to independently inserting and activating their own sensor.
Learning to reliably scan a DataMatrix or QR code can take practice, particularly for elderly people and others who have difficulty with dexterity, vision, or aiming a smartphone camera.
This Mac app is a supplemental companion to the iOS app Practice with Freeman. The larger display of a Mac provides more room for practice materials and additional features that would be difficult to provide within the confines of an iPhone screen.
The Mac app is also designed for caregivers. A caregiver helping a single person with diabetes can use the larger Mac display to assist with repeated scanning practice. Caregivers supporting multiple people with diabetes can prepare practice materials in larger quantities, including printing sheets of self-adhesive practice labels that can be applied to practice objects for repeated scanning exercises.
Together, the Mac and iOS apps are designed to make repeated practice easier and help users become more comfortable and confident with the scanning process, with the goal of supporting greater independence.
