The classic painting program style you remember, on your Mac: sixteen tools, a color palette, branch-preserving undo, transparent PNG, and recovery of unsaved work. PurePaint is a pixel painting program for your Mac, made for people who are used to the classic painting program that has come with desktop computers for decades. The toolbox sits on the left, the color palette along the bottom, and the commands sit in the menus where you expect them, so you can start drawing right away. It is a real Mac app with the standard menu bar, the system color panel, and the usual print dialog. Drawing tools The toolbox holds the sixteen classic tools: pencil, brush, airbrush, eraser, color eraser, fill, color picker, magnifier, text, line, curve, rectangle, rounded rectangle, ellipse, polygon, and the two selection tools. Each tool shows its own options in a panel at the bottom, such as brush shape, line width, or fill style. Lines and shapes draw with smooth antialiased edges or with the classic crisp pixels, one option away. Colors Left-click a palette color for the foreground, right-click for the background, and Ctrl-click for a temporary third color. Double-click any entry to edit it in the macOS Colors panel. A dedicated transparent color lets any tool paint see-through pixels. Selections, resizing, and image editing Select an area with a rectangle or a lasso, then move, copy, scale, or crop it. Resize the whole picture in pixels or percentages with sharp or smooth sampling, or drag the canvas borders to make room. Drag and drop an image file onto the canvas to open it, paste from the clipboard, or insert a file as a floating selection. Opaque and transparent color modes are one dialog away. History and recovery Undo and redo keep branches: step back, draw something new, and the abandoned branch stays reachable in the History window, which can jump to any earlier state. PurePaint snapshots your picture automatically and offers to recover it after an unexpected quit. Files Save as PNG, JPEG, or BMP, and open those plus GIF, TIFF, and TGA. WebP and HEIC images import too. Transparency is preserved, and a failed or interrupted save never destroys the previous file. PurePaint collects no data, shows no ads, and works entirely offline.
