The Haunted Steamer is open until November 1st. Eight spooky dumplings to catch — a pumpkin, a ghost, a little bat, a witch and a few more — in two new boxes, with a new neighbor who only visits while the baskets are out. Catch all eight for a bonus. The spooky ones come back every Halloween, and whatever you catch stays in your collection for good. Two fixes as well. The Trade tab could go blank once you had two of the same glittery, rainbow or gold dumpling; it doesn't now, and the neighbors will trade your fancy ones properly. And the list of your spares was cutting off its last column when a dumpling had a long name.

Dumplings can now turn up glittery, rainbow or gold. That is rolled separately from how rare a dumpling is, so a common one can still be the best thing you pull all week, and the chances are printed on the box like every other number in this game. Opening a box takes its time now. The paper crinkles, the lid knocks, steam pours out, and then you see what you got. Squishbox works with VoiceOver, so a child who cannot see the screen can open a box and hear what came out of it. Fixed: a shelf that drew itself in the wrong corner of the home screen.

My buddy: pick one dumpling to look after. Every new day you visit, it learns another trick and gets up to something good. Nothing ever gets hungry or sad while you are away. Dumplings stay put on iPad instead of flickering. Squishbox no longer interrupts music or a podcast playing in the background.
