Turn Curwen hand signs into music on Mac, iPhone and iPad. Explore melodies and two-part harmony with 42 included sounds and on-device recognition.
Solfège Studio turns Curwen hand signs into music. Use your Mac camera to play a melody with one hand, or bring in your other hand to explore two-part harmony. Make a sign, hear the note, and connect what you sing with what you see.
For choral directors, music teachers, students and singers:
• Play the seven natural solfège signs and ten sharp and flat signs
• Choose from 42 included sounds, including piano, strings, woodwinds, brass and choir
• Give each hand its own sound
• Change the tonic while keeping the same movable-do hand signs
• Move your hands higher or lower to change octave
• Turn hand and octave guides on when they help
• Explore optional illustrated lessons for the basics, then sharps and flats
Click Start playing to enter Freeplay immediately. No hand sign, profile or lesson is required. Illustrated sign lessons remain available whenever you want them, and every lesson can be skipped.
Try a choir warmup, sound out a phrase, or hold one note while the other hand moves. The included sounds work without another app or an instrument purchase.
On macOS 15 or later, record the app window and instrument audio as a MOV on your Mac. The microphone is off by default. Turn it on when you want to add your voice; those takes also include separate instrument and microphone WAV files for editing.
Recognition runs on your device, and the included instrument works offline. Ordinary play does not save camera video. Recordings begin only when you choose Record and stay on your Mac. There is no account, advertising, analytics or tracking.
One purchase covers Mac, iPhone and iPad. The interfaces are designed for each device; video recording is currently a Mac feature.
