Snip is a screenshot and screen recording tool that lives in your menu bar.
Capture a region, a window, or the whole screen with a keyboard shortcut. Your capture opens in an editor built for one thing: making the point clearly, fast.
CAPTURE
• Region, window, and full-screen capture
• Repeat your last capture without reselecting it
• Global shortcuts you choose
• Optional capture delay for menus that vanish on click
MARK UP
• Arrows, boxes, ellipses, lines, and freehand pen
• Text labels, speech bubbles, and numbered steps
• Blur and pixelate to hide anything private
• A magnifier inset to enlarge the detail that matters
• Crop, rotate, flip, and resize
• Drop shadows, borders, and padding
RECORD
• Record the screen or a region to a movie
• Click indicators show where you clicked
• Export any recording as an animated GIF
STAY ORGANIZED
• Every capture in one library, filtered by type or date
• Search, rename, and Quick Look
• Drag a capture straight into Slack, Mail, or Finder
• Copy the last capture from the menu bar without opening it
Snip keeps everything on your Mac. No account, no cloud, no analytics.

Highlight text in a single drag
Hold Option and drag across any text in a screenshot to highlight it word by word, with whatever tool you have selected. Snip reads the text in your capture and fits the highlight neatly to each line.
Better highlights
Highlights now start in a bright yellow and keep their own color, separate from your arrows and shapes. They also stay clear and readable on dark screenshots.
A tidier workspace
- The workspace opens in the bottom-right corner of your screen, out of the way of what you just captured.
- A slimmer, icon-only sidebar leaves more room for your captures. Click the sidebar button to show the names.
- More captures fit on screen at once.
- The Snip logo now sits in the toolbar.
Windows that step aside
A new setting, "Hide windows you move away from," makes the workspace fade away when your pointer has been off it for a few seconds. Hover over it to keep it open.
More room to edit
The editor opens centered on your screen with the style panel tucked away, so your image gets the space. Click an icon on the right edge to open the panel at the section you need.
Fixes
- Copied captures now paste only once in apps like Slack, Notes and Mail.
- Launch at login works reliably.
- Your settings are no longer at risk of resetting after an update.
