First Minutes
Dive first aid, works offline
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
The first minutes of an emergency on the water, for the people who are actually there.
First Minutes works with no signal. It opens on the phone numbers you need — local emergency services and the 24-hour diving hotline for where you are — then gives you the steps, then gives you the words to say when somebody answers.
WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS
— Emergency call block on every screen: local services and the diving hotline, one tap.
— A CPR prompter with a metronome, sound and torch: 30:2 or hands-only.
— First-aid cards for diving injuries and for the ordinary things that happen on boats: bleeding, burns, fractures, choking, heat, marine stings.
— Every step shows the published source it came from, with the year. Steps we could not source say so.
— A call script written to be read aloud to a dive doctor, in two versions: one for a diver, one for anyone else. What they tell you to do is saved with the time.
— DAN's field neurological exam as a step-by-step check, each step stamped with the time.
— An incident report that builds itself from what you recorded, ready to hand over or share.
— An Emergency Action Plan for your boat or site, and a printable A5 sheet for the first-aid kit.
AFTER THE DIVE
— Read a dive from a log file (.uddf, .ssrf, .xml, Shearwater .swlogdata), over Bluetooth from a Shearwater computer, or type in a day of dives.
— A day is read as a day: each dive starts from what the one before it left in the tissues, across the real surface interval.
— The reading uses the published Bühlmann ZH-L16C model with gradient factors, and shows every compartment on surfacing, the ceiling, and where the profile stood against it.
— A DCS probability from DAN's published model, fitted to 127,957 recorded dives. It is a figure for a population of dives like yours, not a forecast for you, and no figure is shown outside the range the model was fitted on.
— A library of DAN's research, answered in the papers' own sentences with references, offline after one download.
Free. No advertising, no accounts, no tracking. Nothing you type leaves your phone.
First Minutes is not a medical device. It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. In an emergency, call your local emergency services and a diving emergency hotline first — always, before opening this app. It is not a substitute for hands-on first aid and oxygen-provider training. DAN is not affiliated with this app and has not reviewed it.
Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
Share your incident report as a PDF, ready to send to the doctor, the chamber or the dive centre.
Far from a town, your location now reads as a distance and a direction, like "108 km south-west of Male", so you can read it out on the phone.
The back-blows picture now shows the hand landing between the shoulder blades. The CPR prompter uses the same figures as the cards.
Where a step rests on two sources, the card now shows both. Every source link has been checked.
The safety-stop note no longer appears on shallow dives.
The Research screen now says which questions its library cannot answer.
Dive centres now make and print their boat sheet at first-minutes.com. Scanning a printed sheet works as before.
The app is in English only for now.
