Palmas: Flamenco Metronome

Compás y palmas

Free

Practise flamenco with real palmas, cajón and jaleos across more than 50 palos — from soleá and bulerías to tangos and sevillanas. Silence any beat to test your compás. Palmas is a flamenco metronome that plays the compás the way it is really played — with palmas claras and sordas, pitos, nudillos, cajón and jaleos, rather than a click. Choose from more than 50 palos and regional styles: soleá, bulerías de Jerez, Utrera, Lebrija and Cádiz, alegrías and cantiñas, tangos, tientos, siguiriya, fandangos, sevillanas, rumba, farruca, guajira, tanguillos and many more. Each has its own accents and count-in, and a short description with a link to read further. SEE THE COMPÁS Follow the rhythm as a line of dots, a counter or a clock face. The accents stand out, and the instrument you choose to follow is drawn against the pulse, so you can see how the palmas play against the compás. TEST YOURSELF Tap any beat to silence it. The compás keeps showing where the beat falls, so you count through the gap: silence beat 10 and find out whether you still arrive on 12. MAKE IT YOURS • Mix the instruments you want, each at its own volume • Set the tempo, with a count-in before you start • Add swing, or switch on eighth notes to hear the off-beats • Humanize the timing for a human feel, or let it improvise the odd surprise • A tuning fork for your guitar • Light and dark themes BEYOND FLAMENCO Also Afro-Cuban claves and cáscara, Afro-Brazilian bossa nova and samba, and other rhythms from around the world. PRIVATE AND FREE No ads, no accounts, no tracking, and the metronome works offline. Palmas is free and open source, based on A Compás by Olivier Ricordeau and Jérémie Sieffert.
