Kuzhi 1: Pallankuzhi
Traditional Tamil Board Game
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
A wooden board, cowrie shells, and the sowing-and-capture game South Indian families have played for generations — now on your phone.
Pallankuzhi is the traditional South Indian mancala-family game played
for generations on a carved wooden board of 14 pits — sow seeds around
the board, capture your opponent's, and empty their side before they
empty yours.
Kuzhi 1 brings that same board to your phone: real wood-and-cowrie-shell
photography instead of flat icons, the same sowing rhythm, and the same
family-table feel, whether you're playing solo, passing the phone back
and forth with someone next to you, or matched online with a room code.
FEATURES
• Vs Computer — play against an AI opponent at your own pace
• Two Players — share one device; the far player's row and name turn to
face them, exactly as if you'd swapped seats at a real board
• Online — create or join a match with a short room code, no account
needed
• The optional "four seed" capture rule, on or off, matching however
your family plays it
• Two coin styles — the traditional cowrie shells, or tamarind seeds
• Sound, haptics, and animation speed, all adjustable
• Play completely offline — nothing about local play ever needs a
connection
No ads. No account required to play solo or locally. No tracking.
Pallankuzhi has many regional and family rule variations — Kuzhi 1
plays a common base ruleset, with the well-known "four seed" variant
available as a toggle in Settings.
