Mac
Ten palettes, four modes, and whatever is playing right now. Sonoluma turns your Mac's audio into live visuals — in a window, or filling the screen.
Sonoluma is a real-time visualizer. It listens to the sound your Mac is already playing and turns it into moving light — fire that leans with the bass, ripples that open on a snare, tunnels that pull toward the beat. Keep it in a window beside your work, or let it take the whole screen.
It works with anything that makes sound. Spotify, Apple Music, a browser tab, a game, a microphone or line-in. There is no library to import and no playlist to build. Press play somewhere else and Sonoluma follows.
TEN PALETTES, FOUR MODES
Fire, Ice, Acid, Plasma, Mono, Rainbow, Solar Flare, Oil Shimmer, Metallic and Blue Fire, drawn as flame, swirl, ripple or tunnel. Mirror the image left-to-right or into a four-way kaleidoscope. Adjust how fast it decays and how hard it reacts, then leave it alone — the same settings never give you the same picture twice, because the music is different every time.
NOW PLAYING
Sonoluma reads the current track from Spotify or Apple Music and shows it over the visuals, then gets out of the way.
CONTROLLED FROM THE KEYBOARD
Full screen, palette, mode, mirror, intensity and decay are single keypresses, so you can change the look without hunting for a cursor in a dark room.
A LONG HISTORY
In 1993, a program called Cthugha did this on hardware with no graphics acceleration at all, and people left it running for hours. Sonoluma is that idea rebuilt on Metal: the same reactive feedback visuals, now at full screen resolution and a steady frame rate.
PRIVATE BY CONSTRUCTION
Sonoluma has no network code in it. Not disabled — absent. It cannot send your audio anywhere, because it has no way to send anything anywhere. No account, no telemetry, no analytics, no update ping. Your settings stay on your Mac and go away when you remove the app.
ABOUT THE PERMISSION macOS ASKS FOR
macOS asks for Screen & System Audio Recording permission because that is the only way an app can hear the sound another app is playing. Sonoluma uses the audio from it and nothing else — no screen images are read, saved or sent. Microphone access is used only if you pick a microphone or line-in.
Requires macOS 26 or later.
