A location-based message app: you can read only the messages within 500 m of where you stand. Beyond the circle, there are just dots. Walk closer and read.
Kokodake (“only here” in Japanese) is an app for leaving messages that can only be read right where you are.
■ Readable only within 500 m
A circle with a 500 m radius (about 1,640 ft) is drawn on the map, centered on you. You can read the messages inside the circle. Messages outside it show up only as dots, and tapping one tells you just its distance and direction. Walk closer and it opens up.
Zoom out and you can spot messages left in faraway towns, even overseas, as dots and clusters.
■ Left only where you stand
A message stays at the spot where you leave it. The sweets shop halfway up a hill, the stairway where the evening sun pours through, the corner nobody passes at 7 a.m. You can add one photo, too.
■ Anonymous and easy
No sign-up. No name is shown. You can delete your own messages whenever you like.
■ Built with safety in mind
• For adults 18 and over. You need to agree to the Terms of Service before you start
• Message text is checked for prohibited expressions before it is published, and photos are inspected for safety by AI. Posts that need a closer look are not published; our team reviews them
• You can report inappropriate messages with “Report.” A post you report disappears from your screen right away
• Posts confirmed to break the rules are removed and their authors are suspended. We respond to reports within 24 hours
• Photo checks accept up to 3 submissions per 24 hours. If the checking service's overall limit has been reached, you can still post with text only
• Don't want to see someone's messages? “Block this author” hides all of them at once
• You can also hide individual posts, or block an author, from the “…” menu on a post
• You can contact our team from “Contact and safety” on the home screen
• Location data (EXIF) is removed from photos before they are uploaded
• Your current location is used only to decide whether a message is within 500 m, and it is not stored (only the spot where you leave a message is saved)
■ Available in 9 languages
Japanese, English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. The app follows your device's language.
■ How it works
1. Confirm that you are 18 or older and agree to the Terms of Service
2. Allow location access
3. Read the messages inside the circle, on the map and in the list
4. Tap a dot outside the circle to see its distance and direction, then walk closer
5. Tap “Leave a message here” to leave a message where you stand
A stroll, a trip, your everyday route. Words that reach only the people who come to this very spot. Only here, on Kokodake.
