O Horatio

Your trusty AI transcriber

Everything heard, written down — a lecture, a seminar, an interview. It works out who spoke and maps what the hour was about, all on your own device. In Hamlet, everyone dies except one man. Hamlet spends his last breath giving Horatio a job: report me and my cause aright — tell my story. O Horatio listens and writes down what was actually said. TRANSCRIBES AS YOU SPEAK Text appears while you are still talking, in any of 100 languages, detected automatically. Settled sentences never change under you — only the last line updates — so reading along while you talk is not distracting. MAKES A FAIR COPY "More matter, with less art" — a language model running on your iPad removes filler and false starts, fixes punctuation and paragraphing, and repairs mangled terminology against your own glossary. The verbatim transcript is always kept alongside; one switch shows either, and hovering any paragraph shows what was really said. NAMES THE SPEAKERS Works out who spoke when, so a question is attributed to whoever asked it. Rename them, merge one that was detected twice, reassign a paragraph the boundary landed on wrongly, or split one where two people were run together. Every edit undoes and redoes. MAPS THE CONCEPTS Extracts what the session was actually about and draws it as a graph you can explore. Prune a digression and the transcript condenses to match. TRANSCRIBES RECORDINGS TOO Import an audio or video file and it goes through the same engine the microphone does, as fast as your iPad will take it — nothing plays back, and the text arrives as it goes. Stop part way and the next import of the same file offers to carry on from exactly where it stopped, rather than transcribing it all again. HANDS YOU A DOCUMENT Export the session as a PDF: the transcript with its speakers and timestamps, the concept graph drawn as a diagram, and every concept grouped by category. Each page carries its own header and footer, so a page that gets separated from the rest still says what it is. Markdown export too, fair copy or verbatim. IT RUNS ON YOUR IPAD Transcription, the fair copy, speaker labelling and concept extraction all happen locally. There is no account, no subscription and no server. Your recordings are files on your own disk, and the app shows you where. If you would rather use a remote model for the fair copy you can connect one, and the app tells you plainly, before you do, that the text will leave your device. Audio never does. WHAT THE IPAD HEARS The microphone, and only the microphone — a lecture, a seminar, an interview, a meeting you are sitting in. Recording the far side of a call is a Mac feature: iPadOS does not let any app listen to another one, and this is said here rather than discovered later.
