Cut, key, mask and title on one timeline — then export for any screen, from 4K to vertical. Screen recording, subject tracking and grids are built in.
Cutting Room is a video editor for macOS built around one timeline and a preview you work on directly. Drag a title where you want it, draw a mask over the shot, pull out a guide and line things up by eye.
EDITING
• Video, audio and overlay lanes, with waveforms and thumbnails
• Blade, join, ripple, close gaps and snapping
• In and out points mark what plays and what gets exported
• Copy and paste, and undo for everything
• Speed per clip, from presets or as a frame rate against the footage's own
• Hold a frame, play a shot backwards, or boomerang it out and back
PICTURE
• Crop and reframe each clip, with the target shape always in view
• Track a subject and the crop follows it through the shot
• Colour key with tolerance and softness, for green screen or black
• Picture in picture, with corners, size, opacity and rounded edges
• Masks: rectangle, ellipse, brush, or an SVG drawing you already have
• Masks cut the picture away or hold it solid, and can be timed to part of a clip
• A grid of thirds, quarters, sixths or your own divisions
• Guides dragged out of rulers, with snapping for anything on the picture
TITLES AND GRAPHICS
• Titles, lower thirds, credits and tickers
• Your fonts, with size, colour, alignment, shadow and a safe area
• Stills and logos as overlays, arranged front to back
• Align and distribute, or type exact numbers
RECORDING
• Record your screen or a single window, with your microphone if you want it
• A take lands in the bin ready to cut, with its sound already checked
EXPORT
• Presets for the shapes people actually deliver: 4K, 1080p, vertical, square, 4:5 and a ProRes master
• Save your own presets, or set format, quality, ratio and size by hand
• Export the whole sequence or just the marked range
PROJECTS
• Imported footage stays where it is, so importing an hour costs nothing
• Package Media copies everything into the project when you want it whole — your originals are never moved or deleted
• Relink footage that has moved
• Autosave, and a project that opens where you left it
