Stone Identifier Rock Scan
Identify gems, crystals & more
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Photograph any rock, crystal, gem or fossil for an instant identification, with hardness, formation, value and lookalikes explained in plain language.
Point your phone at any rock, crystal, gemstone or fossil and find out what it is in seconds.
Stone Identifier names your specimen from a photograph, then explains what you are actually holding: how it formed, how hard it is, what it is worth, and what it is most often mistaken for.

HONEST ABOUT WHAT A PHOTO CAN TELL YOU
An identification from a photograph is an informed estimate, not a laboratory result. Stone Identifier shows its confidence, names the lookalikes it cannot rule out, and tells you which properties a camera simply cannot measure. For anything valuable, have it confirmed by a qualified gemmologist.
PRIVACY BY DEFAULT
No account. No sign-up. No advertising identifier. Your scans, photographs and collection notes stay in the app's private storage on your device. A photograph is sent for analysis only when you ask for an identification, and it is not kept afterwards.
Made for rockhounds, beachcombers, creek and desert collectors, gem and mineral show visitors, students, teachers, and anyone who has ever picked up an interesting stone and wondered what it was.
Identification needs an internet connection. The stone guide, your collection and your history all work offline.
