One word at a time comes to the middle of the screen, stays for its moment, and gives way to the next — so the eyes never travel and the text comes to them. Or two or three words at a time, which is still one glance. Set the pace with a slider, in words a minute, and the size with another; both can be moved while the words run. Read a single verse, a range of verses or the whole chapter, and have it come round again until you stop it. No verse numbers, no marks — only the words, as the King James has them. Two switches to try against the same verse. "Longer words stay longer" holds a word in proportion to its length and pauses at the end of a sentence, where the plain pace gives every word the same moment. "Skip hidden words" leaves out the words on your hidden list, so the exercise of supplying them from memory runs at speed. A word goes in only where it belongs, so the verse is rebuilt the way it reads rather than assembled loosely and marked at the end. Words that repeat are handled properly. A verse with two "the"s in it takes either of them wherever one belongs, which sounds obvious and is the thing that makes a verse playable at all. Your place is kept. Leave off in the middle of a verse and the words already placed are still there when you come back. Finishing one is logged, and "Start this verse again" blanks the verse without touching the history it has already earned.
