Turn scientific data into clear, publication-ready visuals—now seamlessly connected with FITS QuickLook Studio.
Turn numerical data into clear scientific figures with PlotLoom.
Open MAT and FITS files, explore their numerical contents, choose your series, and create charts on your Mac. No MATLAB installation or account is required.
EIGHT WAYS TO SEE YOUR DATA
• Line and scatter plots
• Symmetric Y error bars
• Grouped bar charts
• Box plots
• Polar plots
• Complex-plane plots
• Nonzero matrix patterns
EXPLORE MAT AND FITS FILES
Read supported MAT v5–v7.2 and v7.3 data, including numeric arrays, complex values, sparse matrices, and numerical fields inside cell and struct containers.
Open FITS image HDUs, choose two-dimensional slices from multidimensional images, and work with supported gzip and tiled compression. Select numeric columns from ASCII and binary FITS tables, including fixed-length vector columns and binary complex columns.
CHOOSE WHAT YOUR FIGURE SHOWS
Browse nested data by its full path. Map variables or table columns to X, Y, and error values. Select multiple series or use matrix rows as series.
For complex data, choose the real part, imaginary part, magnitude, or phase. Use a complex-plane plot to compare real and imaginary components directly.
Sparse matrices retain their sparse storage. Reveal nonzero positions without expanding the entire matrix, or plot selected series with their implicit zeros included.
REFINE AND EXPORT
Adjust titles, axis labels, grid lines, legends, and line width. Export your finished figure as:
• PNG at 2200 × 1520 pixels
• Vector PDF
• Vector SVG
LOCAL PROCESSING
File reading and chart rendering happen locally on your Mac. PlotLoom does not upload your datasets and includes no advertising, tracking, or analytics SDKs.
Start with the built-in numerical demo, or open your own data.
FORMAT AND RESOURCE NOTES
PlotLoom supports defined subsets of MAT and FITS formats. MAT Level-5 numerical leaves are currently limited to two dimensions. MATLAB objects and custom classes, text data, and FITS variable-length columns are not supported for plotting. PlotLoom does not execute MATLAB scripts or open FIG files.
Resource limits apply, including up to eight series and 50,000 selected values per chart. Data are not silently downsampled. Values use double-precision representation; some large integers may lose precision.
Requires macOS 14 or later. Supports Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Ratings & Reviews
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
- Receive FITS and MAT data directly from FITS QuickLook Studio, reducing the need to select files again.
- Send the current chart back to the main app as a PDF or SVG for viewing.
- Improved the data-mapping sidebar, chart style controls, and preview area.
Main-app integration requires FITS QuickLook Studio 11.2.8 or later.
