MarkThatDown is a Markdown editor for the Mac that works on ordinary Markdown files, whether you open one from Finder or open a whole folder of notes. Ordinary notes stay plain text files, so any other Markdown app can open them too. Four views of the same note Write in the visual editor, where headings and tables look the way they will read. Switch to Markdown source when you want the exact syntax. Split preview puts the source beside the rendered note, and reading mode shows the finished note without the editing controls. All four views work on one saved file. What renders as you write Tables, task lists, code blocks, math and Mermaid diagrams render in place. Link one note to another with [[wiki links]], and the Backlinks list shows which notes point back. Find it and share it Quick Open finds a note by name. Search covers the whole folder, with find and replace across every note in it. Export to Markdown or share a rendered PDF when someone needs a finished copy. Desktop widgets start a new note, open a pinned note or list your recent ones. What's free Everything above is free. There is no note limit. The visual editor, Markdown source, split preview, reading mode, folder search, wiki links, Markdown and PDF export and the widgets all come with the free download. What Pro adds • Preview saved versions for free. Pro restores earlier writing. • Lock a note with a password. It is encrypted on your disk, and the password never leaves your Mac. • Preview Word and HTML documents before export. Word keeps tables, local images, links and footnotes. • Browse starter templates for client briefs, projects and weekly reviews. Pro creates notes from templates you can edit. • Put any formatting command on the keyboard shortcut you already use. • Browse every tag in the folder from the sidebar, one click from the notes that use it. • Pick one of eight colors for the app icon in your Dock. • Use Writing Tools to rewrite, proofread and shorten text on the Mac itself. They need macOS 26 or later and a Mac that supports Apple Intelligence. How Pro is sold Pro comes as a monthly or annual subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Apple shows the price for your country, and any offer you qualify for, before you pay. A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel it in your Apple Account subscription settings at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Lifetime never renews. To restore a purchase on another Mac, open Settings, choose Account and click Restore Purchases. Your notes stay with you MarkThatDown needs no account. It doesn't upload your notes, their version history or the text you give Writing Tools, and it has no cloud sync of its own. If you keep your notes folder inside another service's synced folder, that service handles the copies it makes. MarkThatDown runs on macOS 14 or later. Start writing with fewer setup steps. Choose a local starter folder immediately, or open a folder you already use. Word export now keeps tables, local images, clickable links and footnotes. Choose Standard, Reader or Compact typography and preview the document before saving it. File History now lets you compare saved versions before buying Pro. Pro restores the version you choose. Browse editable starter templates for client briefs, project plans and weekly reviews. The Pro purchase screen now labels each billing plan clearly and uses one purchase button. This update also fixes purchase-state timing after a successful transaction.
